It was pretty funny the first time I called my wife "my cup holder," not so much after that. And yes,I now have cup holders.
I've started working on one for my 31 Ford pu. It's going to be kinda rough, like the truck. I started it a year ago so I really need to get back on it. I'll post some pix when it gets a little farther.
I've used those cheap parts store plastic things and for big cups they don't work. But if you put a really big hose clamp around them.... My O/T van, a conversion, has like most a wood add-on piece for the shallow factory cup holder on the doghouse. Even that was too shallow for big cups, so I added... yup, the cheap plastic one. Eventually cut the ear off it meant to hang it from the window. Slipped right in and works fine otherwise.
Here's our removable cup holder. It weighs 3 1/2 pounds and it attaches to the hump with velcro. If you don't want to use it you just take it off and put it behind the seat or in the trunk.
May I suggest that if you need and can use a cup holder in a hot rod, the car probably IS NOT a hot rod. How about just driving the damn thing and paying attention to traffic........................ Sorry, but I had to say it.....
That's what I do. "Hold my coffee so I can shift". Or. "Hold my coffee just until I'm out of second (cause of course it will pop out of second coasting". Works well for me. (Though I call her names other than cup holder) Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Tagman, not sure if your reply was directed at me or just anyone with a cup holder, but someone said on the HAMB that a car wasn't a hot rod if it didn't have 3 pedals. Well I have 3 pedals and I have air conditioning and heat but no music so maybe it isn't a hot rod. But we just drove 2200 miles on 2 & 4 lane highways stopping for gas every 150-200 miles and we get thirsty between stops. I like my cup holder and the convenience it provides, sorry your offended by it..
X2..I don't drink coffee after the first cup in the morning so I must be safe with Diet Coke!! I have the three pedals, 6spds, AC, Heat, Radio with Casset tape player.. Oops dated myself..In the future I will have a Radio with usb..So there..
What a hoot, bought my 56 chevy last year, pulled the carb off and installed fuel injection (TBI). Where to install the ECU? How about under a cup holder? So I bought a cup holder (ebay USA made) covered the CD holder slots, cut out a space and tucked the ECU under it.

WOW. That gal knows how to chill out for sure. My 46 Chevy coupe has one factory built in the center of the bench seat & it works great. That little round hole at center rear of the front bench is perfect for bottles or my tall Yeti insulated cup. Jimmie
Well, we need to get the tech archive feature revived, and get the whole bibliography of discussion in there. Then we can found a social group based on the search for the mythical hotrod correct cupholder, the Northwest passage, and the great white whale. And hire a Yeti as moderator.
