    this week i have a neat little Track T in the shop for some aluminum work.
    3 piece hood, gut pan, blister on cowl, and some louvers on the parts i am making

    got the gut pan made today. the owner wanted it to start at the front of the doors and go back to the back of the tub. i made it to where it would be easy to add to if he decides to go all the way to the front of the car ( i would do that if it were mine). the way its shaped would make it look good after added to, not like an after thought

    talked the customer into letting me run the belly pan all the way to the front. so here is the finished product

    had to go teach at a class at Baileigh Industrial. i went up a few days early and hung out at my good friend Marks metal shaping school. i took a Miller body buck up for a fun little project to work on while helping him out around the school. this miller body is a replica of the winner of the 1923 Indy 500.

    this studebaker is in the shop for some work, there will be pics posted as it progresses

    my buddies 56 chevy is for a new front suspension set up and some race prep for Bowling Green Hot Rod Reunion

    did some sheet metal work on a bike gas tank. used the english wheel to shape the new top. fine tunded the edges with a kick shrinker

    then pre stretched the areas where the customer wanted some bead puts, to not distort the shape while doing the beads. then bead rolled

    had two customers come to me to do some aluminum deck lid skins for their cars. the first one was fora fiberglass 33-34 coupe. used the english wheel to put all the shape in, then used the bead roller to turn the edge. followed up with the kick shrinker to fine tune the edge

    started the next one, for a 28-29 roadster. same process as the other one

    both skins made. louvering them both tomorrow

    jo kerr called me and needed some patch panels made for a roof section of a model a coupe. here is my employee ryan holding one panel that is done and the start of the mirrored part. lots and lots of shrink going on to get these into shape

    here there are ready to head to indy. still have some tooling marks that i could not get out with all the shrinking. but over all very happy with the results

    Now I've never considered myself a master craftsman, but I like to think I know my way around a metal shop. For some reason though, everytime I read this thread, I realize I'm really just a caveman beating on metal with hammers.

    so a lot has been going on in the shop and have not had much time to post about it. but here are a few updates.

    this 53 studebaker truck came in for some sheet metal work

    and here is what we did to it. installed the engine, trans, and radiator. had to modify the core support some for the aftermarket aluminum radiator

    while installing engine and trans we recessed the fire wall so we could get the engine back where it needed to be. you can also see the bolt in panel we made to seal up the engine bay side of the dash. which was just left open on these trucks originally

    then moved on to putting the door latches and strikers in the doors. since they had been suicided we went with slim line bear claw latches. we installed them backwards. due to if i had to swing my knees in the truck all the time i know i would hit them on the striker pin all the time. we also made some mechanical door releases

    then made a cover for the rear air ride

    moved onto fixing some of the major body damage on the cab. the pass. side rear fender had been hit on or by something pretty bad. so some straightening in the E wheel, hammer and dollying and trip through the planishing hammer straightened her right out

    more metal repair on the cab and driver door

    re shaped and moved the front bumper back

    and now she is ready to head back to the owner

    i also bit the bullet and bought a nice power hammer to help grow my skills in metal shaping. i have had it about a week and only get to play with it a little each day before heading home.

    here is a practice wheel tub i made out of aluminum. all 1 piece no welding. knocked it out in about an hour.

    this winter i need to make a set of aluminum fenders for my buddies 56 chevy race car to replace some fiberglass ones he has on there. so i am practicing on making some 55 fenders since i have a junk fender laying around and they are close enough for practice
