Making headway. Bob has been working on the dash a little more as the ends have been welded in and rough finished. Also, I didn't want anything sticking out of the face of the dash besides the gauge panel, so he mounted all of the switches underneath it in a cool little removable panel he came up with. @da34guy turned me onto that clean and cool look years ago.

The bolts you see will be replaced with stainless button heads up final assembly.

The stereo will be mounted up and under the dash. You shouldn't be able to see it unless seated in the car. It's a weatherproof motorcycle unit with FM, USB and smartphone connections. It's supposed to be 600 watts (doubtful, I've done a LOT of car audio) and four speakers. As long as it's loud enough to hear at 80 MPH we'll be good. Speakers will be mounted under the dash out of sight.

My son Austin and I mounted the Gennie Shifter shifter and emergency brake this afternoon. Guys, if you haven't looked at Gennie in a while you need to. Absolutely EXCELLENT quality and customer service! I won't be buying Lokar anymore.

Thanks Jeremy, I'm VERY happy with my purchase. Super nice guys too!

It's all PPG stuff. I don't recall which line, but it's higher grade.

I usually agree with you, but after spending dozens of hours on the road in Bernie's roadster with a rockin' sound system I'm converted.

Besides, what do you know? You've never turned on your radio in your truck, have you? Ha!

I better not show Kimi this thread, she might think I stopped loving her! It's about the details and you have them covered!

  10. I see your shifter has a fixed position with the mount plates, mine (Hoffman Group junk) was multi fit and thats where im having my trouble. Shifters are not cheap in NZ, especially good ones. :( JW

I can't begin to explain how nice this Gennie Shifter is. What me to send one to you? I can't believe Hoffman is still in business.

Nope, no drama. Over the years I've bought Lokar's stuff and a few times I've had problems. Their products are okay but their customer service left a lot to be desired.

I had thought Gennie Shifter was out of business, then came across an ad for them so I called. Really nice and knowledgable staff, prices are fair but their quality (in my opinion) is way better than the Lokar stuff I've had. Not that Lokar is junk, but I think if you handle the two side by side and have installed each brand you'd agree that Gennie is better all around.

  14. Agree, I put in Gennie in my touring when I built it. GV has never had an issue since he bought it.

  15. Thanks for the offer Eric, very tempting but I refuse to let my American Shifter beat me ( I still have a bit of fight left) and I will update it in the future. JW

    Cool beans. :)

We should give it a shot, for sure. If the faceplate is fully free from the buttons/ports/display I could just recreate it in the gauge panel material. If it's a pita to remove, there's a much thinner material used for acoustic guards that would work fine. Either way, we can skin that cat!

    Absolutely!
Good thinking man! We'll have to see how it works out. And a matching faceplate would make a HUGE difference in the appearance of an otherwise very ugly faceplate.

Thats an interesting idea for the dash Eric.
I think it will look good.
A question about the Gennie shifter.
There is no push down like Lokar, correct?
I'm wondering how the Gennie would be for manual shifting of my C4.
I'm not sure I like that aspect of the way the Lokar works.
Can you possibly explain the difference between the two shifters in the way they operate?
Also wondering on the neutral safety switch although I will probably be using a factory ford switch on my C4.

Thank you Anders. It's hard to be original and stay within the lines of tradition, ain't it? I dig this though, and if I had seen these I would have ordered it instead of buying the So Cal one. It'd look killer with the guitar pick inserts too! Check it out! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/index.php?threads/984670/

I think I can answer all of your Gennie Shifter questions with one of their pictures.
    1442086656335.jpg
Instead of pushing down (or a button to push down) it's spring loaded and gated to the side. Pull toward the drivers side, then back. Slide it through the gate to select your gear. I like it a lot.

It includes an adjustable neutral safety switch, like Lokar. Two wires to a contact closure. Does that help?
