Projects 1937 Ford truck hot rod roadster build

The bed side beads were made with 1 inch conduit. The first thing I did was the half round (wheel area) I cut the one piece 2 foot longer than I needed, then stuck one end in the grass for leverage, then walked it with one foot while bending it with both hands. Once I got the shape, I cut a quarter inch out both centers, by using green auto paint tape as a guide and cut with a 3" grinder. witch in turn made identical LH & RH sides.
The tight round corners were made by small pie cuts then welded up. All the welding was done with a mig welder on the build.

I have mocked up hood sides on this build. The measurements will allow for a stock hood side to fit.

Taken a little break to replenish some funds. Just finished up a Jaguar conv that was wrecked. Next week doing some spot work and color sanding and buffing on a '68 Chevelle. Then back to the 1937 build.

 

Starting to put some chrome and polished stainless on the '37

 

Getting a little work done here and there on the '37 build. I've been doing a lot of paint work as the head painter at a local shop. I do a lot of custom work on call for a few high end shops in my neck of the woods. There's not a weekend that goes by I don't get mobbed at car shows and asked to do paint and custom work for someone.

I'm pretty sure I mention doing rotisserie concourse restorations and now building ballsy one off hot rods. Thanks for the complement. It's not just a job, it's my life's passion!

 

Here's another one I just finished. 1948 Ford Hot Rod Convertible.

 

Got a little more time to work on the build for the next few weeks finally! Installed the Guide headlights and wired them up. Still need to trim the mounting bolts. The front rails will be cleaned up and painted as well.

I'm getting real close to completion of the build, I've decided to make a couple of changes to the wood bed. Still have to stain the wood and cut the stainless skid plates.

Still deciding on painting the utility box lid or wrap it in leather to match the interior.

 

Do you have a tag for it yet? Bring it to Longwood on Sat!

 

my choice would be to wrap it on leather. looking good.

 

It won't be ready for Longwood, Just going to squeak by for the Daytona Turkey Rod Run for it's debut.

 

Today I installed leather and padding over the trans tunnel, along with the floor. Once the floor is prepped it will get a thick clear epoxy.

 

Working the interior panels this weekend. It needs some kind of contrasting leather straps on the sides, not sure. It needs something?.......Besides adding welts to fill the door jam caps, any suggestions?

 

Polished metal strips of your liking ?? More wood ?? Pretty crafty dude. Something will "ding!" soon enough. Good job.

I was thinking of two toning the wheel, your great idea would work as well.

 

I'm thinking tat the Wheel (steering) should be two toned to match the firewall, possibly the button and wheel outer ring.
The wheels should be painted to match the firewall as well (possibly)
Might help tie it all together.
Pull straps for door closing might look good.
Some sort of shiny boot ring on the floor and a nice shifter boot, I'm thinking some vintage looking accordion style rubber boot rather than a leather style shifter boot.

 

I agree the steering wheel needs more color. I may paint the inner ribbed part a contrasting color.
The shifter boot will be leather with a ring or screws surrounding the base.
Pull straps for the doors I was thinking as well.
Here is the utility box cover wrapped in 5 oz. leather with brass hardware.

The built in utility box has plenty of storage! The battery box fits in there perfect.
