HRP, you are right. Pam and I are driving some miles this year. In June we attended the "All Deuce Run" in North Carolina, an event that I've been watching for the past 3 years (that you and Brenda help coordinate), in July we drove to Des Moines, IA for the Good Guys event and in August the "Hot Rod Hill Climb" in Georgetown, CO leaving from our base in Petersburg, IL. It's been a fun summer. Next planned trip is the "Hot Rod Hundred" leaving from St. Louis, MO which is also a driving event. This will be our second year for that.

Thanks to all of the people who make the effort to organize these great driving events.

  5. Thanks for sharing the great pics. Out of curiosity, why did your car not qualify for the climb?

Since I'm not into square cars ('32 Fords and the like=hot rods) and this event seemed to be for ONLY those type cars...and you drive a '32 coop, I'm curious why you did not "qualify"...???

    Thanx,

Roger - he must have had a newer than 1954 engine or other major component

Sorry, we should have explained why our car did not qualify. In order to participate in the Hill Climb itself, these were the restrictions:

Participation is limited to early 50’s period hot rods and engine combinations (Flat Heads, Bangers, Early Six’s, Inline Eights) that provide the authentic representation of what would’ve been onsite in 1953 or 1954.

Our car has a modern 302 Ford motor with a 5 speed Tremec transmission (along with air and heat).

You are correct, if you like traditional hot rods then this was the place to be. These cars were being driven and enjoyed by everyone. If you like a more modern version of a hot rod then you attended the Reliability Run. There was something for both groups to enjoy!

  14. Thx for the great pics; almost like being there!
Even though there may be surrounding small towns, I have to wonder
how there can be sufficient lodging in the area to accommodate that
    size crowd?

Larry, you asked about two Blue 3 Window Coupes. Here are a couple of more pictures we have of them if that helps you any.

Wondering if a Chrysler firepower fits in the rules. Guys were transplanting them into everything back then.

  19. Just has to be pre '54...with a couple of exceptions...;)

Thanks for sharing the great photos. And thanks for showing us a wide spectrum of the cars that were there either in the reliability run and the hill climb.

Really nice pictures. I had a great time myself, and from what I heard, it started in 1953 to 54 and just quit after that until 3 years ago. There is some history there, and some of the original people and cars were in attendance.

Thanks maplefrm for great coverage. This event is on the list. I have watched the u-tube from last year and hope there will be some posts this year. These kinds of cars is what it is all about. Love em.
