Great thread, HRP. If I could post pics, I'd post the 40. It's my Avatar.

  7. ^^^ Let's see .... that appears to be a bow head garden rake made by the Corona garden tools manufacturer located in Corona, California. Yep ... that's a genuine California Rake right there!!!;)

it is, and I want to rip off the stance and 4 scavengers for my convert...;) I was planning on the 4 scavengers before I ever saw that pic, but when I saw it, it was like "yup, THATS what I was thinking". (Ala Kart had a lot to do with that idea, and running four is a great way to build a low restriction system while still using "period" mufflers)

  14. I actually was thinking about that for my Sedan as well. Can you still find belled scavengers?

I was originally going to make them, still might, but some guy posted on here a while ago about some "kustom" place that was making them. I also bought a box of tips cheap off ebay a while ago, but I don't think any of the pre-made ones are going to be up to my picky-assed, nit-picking perfectionist standards, most of the ones I have seen, they don't bother to polish out the stretch marks on the inside of the flare before they plate them, and I just cant abide shit like that, so I will probably make my own, and send them out for plating.

And yes, that would be cool as all get-out on a unchopped, heavily raked full fendered A tudor! I like it!

Bob Duedall had a "wicked" rake on his '34, however it handled much better, after he lowered the rear (increased caster). Bob Duedall 34 coupe.jpg

  21. I have always love these little 28/29 Roadster pickups, but me looking somewhat like a neanderthal I just don't fit in those tight confines. HRP

  22. If you run it fat the soot will cover the stretch marks really well. :D

When I was still in high school our old house had some of those old lead ( zink?) down spouts on the rain gutters. I found a couple in the old shed and hammered bells on them and ran them for Scavenger pipes on an old heap that I had.

The first time I heard the term "rake", was in 1957, I was 9. My oldest Brother Jerry was serving in the Navy and based in San Diego, he wrote a letter back home, telling about the 40 Merc coupe he bought. His description was, it had a full-race flathead, with 3 carbs and was setting on rake. Our family was not up to date on Hot Rod jargon, we thought he might have misspelled the word "rack". We were familiar with the term "Dago", but "rake" was a new one on us. This was his Stude, a couple of years later. 2012-08-10 115737.jpg
