This is what $94.69 worth of epoxy primer and hardener looks like. Getting more bits & pieces blasted, add a coat of primer and it will look like progress, slow, but progress none the less. Bob

 

Bob, once you open that 402, you have about two weeks to use it before it goes bad. so set up a bunch of stuff.........and use a good new mask..... they go bad too.

 

Thanks Ted, I had a few bucks so I wanted to spend it on the projects before is got blown away on something else. Guess the sandblast pile will get a bit larger. Thanks for the advice. Bob

No, the Inspector has a few more years to go, his Dad's OT Big Block ran last night for the first time since 1990. Bobby was last seen with three big blocks for the pedals.

I got the same stuff as well but got the 401 activator. More grab in it I heard

With the investment in primer the plan it to blast the 4door shell, then prime it along with the Roadster cowl. Hate the thought of leftover primer in the gun and nothing else to prime. Bob

The above^^^^^ info on the primer is correct! I learned the hard way! Made an excellent car cover though!
Shoot as much as you can after cracking it open,and continue for the two weeks following.......
After that- just throw it away.........Sucks to spend the $,and works great,but if it sit's,and you use it,you wont be a happy camper! Glad your back on it!

i have a little left in a can here that is approaching the "dead line" you can have it if you want to "try" it out first.

401 gives you more "open" time to recoat. epoxy primer has a window of time after which it "closes" up. it has the ability to stick to what it is sprayed on, and then a length of time at which something can be sprayed on it and it will "grab" it. 401 gives a longer time than 402. after that it needs to be scuffed or epoxy sprayed back on. good primer, i always start with it.
when i spray filler primer over it, i choose a different color, so when i block the filler and hit the different color i know when to stop. for example black epoxy under a gray filler primer, when i hit black i stop. this warns me i am getting close to exposing bare metal.

 

The plan is to use SMITH's gauges in the Pierce Arrow dash, if I was building this car in 1962 there could have been a wrecked Cobra in a yard I could have striped them out of. A full set new today runs around $800.00 last time I checked, that is about what I have total in the project. Came up with the idea of buying gauges at swap meets and flipping them. It is working out well, two Stewart Warner gauges I bought for $8.00 sold for $52.00 and I bought a New in the box SMITH'S fuel gauge for $50.00.

 

Big day today, picked up a pair of original '32 rails with a factory number. Kind of funny when I think of all the stuff I sold to pay for them. Won some new JW Rod Shop rear rail sections from a Pro Street chassis project ten minutes befor I left to pick up the rails. I've had the '37 x member and front and rear crossmembers for years. This will be a good winter project, getting bodywork in primer is job one while it is still warm. Bob

Trunk finds and flips paid for them, last real big thing I need for the Roadster. They fit inside a '99 Olds and the trunk lid closed. Bob

It was a great day my first new in the box SMITH'S gauge arrived today, the fuel gauge. The frame rails are in the basement, far more good areas than bad. Just having them mocked up will allow me to get the body subrails set, I'll need to save up for the kickup kit next. Bob

 

JW rear kick up sections arrived today! Some were in Ohio there is a pro stock '32 chassis, thanks to Thunder Road Rod & Custom the rear sections were listed on "That Auction Site". I had no idea just were the stock rails were cut but hoped for the best and the auction ended 15 minutes before I left to pick the rails up. For now I plan to just mock them up so I can fit the sub rail kick ups and fit the body. Bobbed rear tips will help replace the rotted top section on the drivers side.

No progress on either project this week, but the day did turn out special. Goal was to clean out as much stuff as I could in the garage, trunk and back seat of my daily driver is full of stuff that will go to the dump tomorrow. I did sort through a lot of stuff and have a pile of odds and ends to list on line. Our Grandson is three and spotted a 3/8 bolt in the driveway and asked if he could have it. Sure! Big smile, as if you or I were given a '32 grill shell and off he went with Grandma. Turned out he was missing the pin to connect the trailer to his pedal tractor, and he came flying in the driveway to show off the fix. It was a PERFECT fit, diameter and length. Kid is three years old and knew that bolt was what he needed, I thought that was so neat. Bob
