    Barris' Golden Sahara had them.

In this video, it is called the "Golden Sahara II by Jim Street." I'm fairly sure that is actually Jim Skonzakes, the original owner of the car. This is a broadcast of "I've Got a Secret" from June 25, 1962.

If he wasn't personally involved with the project it seems odd he'd know why they didn't go into production, the troubles they discovered during testing, and as many details about problems with getting the lighting to work etc. Call me skeptical, but I gotta wonder how he'd know as much about them as he does.

Another of life's mysteries solved. Now,who shot JFK?

  20. Street/Skonzakes are one in the same. I think he used the Street name when he was promoting things with the Sahara. Jim still owns the car.

  21. So when will these be available from Coker?

I had never seen them before, so thanks for sharing! I'm sure there was some sort of lunch room talk about how the impossible tire project was going and it's frustrations along the way and that's how Ryan's source knew... Very cool story!

The technology is available today to mass produce those tires (anyone seen those skateboard wheels that light up?) The one issue (as then) is keeping the tires clean. Perhaps the tire company could produce a tire that has a clear band, a la white wall, and have that clear band light up.

  26. I have to wonder if radium may have been a key component used in designing a tire that would glow.

I'm not sure when the watch makers quit using it but it was definitely a health issue. HRP
