Shoebox next to the '57 convert has a custom grill in it, looks like a Pontiac piece.

  5. You mean 1965?

  6. The Speck, one of the big cruising spots in Portland, Oregon in the 50's through mid 60's. It fell into disrepair in the 70's, is probably long gone now. At about 50th and SE Powell if I remember right.

I recall going to more than one of the Speck's "last" cruise-ins.

I don't think Gary's trying to be an expert, but there are '60's cars in the picture.

  12. Please. I'm hardly being a nitpicker, it's OBVIOUSLY not 1956 unless there was a time machine in use. Give me a break, I don't deserve that criticism! I've contributed more to this thread than most! Jeeez.

  13. There are lots of HAMB police, but Gary ain't one. Thanks to Maggie, Swi66, Gary & all the contributors who make this thread so great.

I'm with you Gary. This is a car thread for car people. This was not a criticism of Maggie who contributes a lot of great stuff, just a car-related comment regarding the correct vintage of the photo. Yes. we are the "experts" or we wouldn't be here and if Thunderplex and others are offended by that, perhaps they should examine their own thin skins.

I'm sure no offence intended. I thought the same thing when I saw the post. I'm grateful to all of you who contribute. Carry on :)

  17. The car in the bottom pic looks to be the 1948 Delahaye 175S built for the 1948 Paris Salon. It was restored here in NZ in the 1980s and is now back in the US I think. Unusual mechanicals; 4.5 litre six (dohc I think), Cotal electric gearbox, De Dion rear end and transverse leaf front suspension. http://www.autorestorations.co.nz/award-winners/1948-delahaye-175s/

Not being an expert, but I do have an opinion ,the thread title is"VINTAGE SHOTS FROM
DAYS GONE BY" not "Vintage Car Shots From Days Gone By" . Now I've always thought
this means to say , pictures that cover life ,times, places and things from our resent past.
That's the way I see it, it's all interesting. Thanks Maggie, Gary, swi66 and the rest of our
gracious contributors, who have this thread what it is.

Damn that guy's tall. Even on a curb that looks to be the same height as the bottom of the rim, he towers over that sedan.

  24. Volvo love - my dad bought the second 122 wagon on the West Coast after getting first hand experience on their safety in a crash. We're a 5 Volvo family.
