Working on a collection of Chevy 6 valve covers. So far I have Edmund's, Fenton, and Sharp. What other manufacturers should I be on the lookout for? Thanks!

I had one recently that said C.A.W. on it, was old, can't be too common, wasn't finned but it was aluminum.

A friend of mine has one on his 261. He says it was made to keep the valve noise down on the early engines.

Add Nicson and Tornado to the list.
CAW covers are fairly common here in the NW ... supposed to have been made either by or for a Denver trucking outfit. I think Stovebolt has one down under ...

Now thats a nice valve cover, but it does't look like it would be very easy to install/remove the hold-down bolts/nuts. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Figured this would be a good thread to ask, what the hell is this one? Kinda looks like a CAW but what looks like a mushroom breather is actually a hinged cap with a built-in screen underneath, I assume to fill oil, no regular breather cap hole. Only casting numbers it's got are pictured, underneath. Seems short too, but I'm still thinking it's a 216 cover. Anyone know?

No idea, but it looks cool nonetheless.

  21. *edit: I got my answer. Lee Chapel is the man behind the Tornado

    any history on Tornado?

I picked up a 261 a few weeks ago and the guy reluctantly sold me a Tornado finned valve cover. it has a crack in it that has been repaired with an epoxy of sorts.

  22. gassersteve,

If you send it to Lamar Walden Automotive here in Atlanta, they will fix that crack and make the valve cover look brand new!

  23. Anybody ever see one of these, or know who Kates/Kate was? I found this one on eBay and a friend bought it. I cleaned it up today. Nice casting, 3/8" thick sides, 1/4" thick ends, extra material around the holes, non vented. I guess you'd use this with the old style road draft tube with the oil cap on it.
