  4. Look how big that Honda looks compared to John.

  5. John Wayne was 6'4" but had a size 5 or 6 shoe size , at least at the movie theater in LA that's the size in the sidewalk . My size 9.5 were about 4" longer .

John Wayne wore a size 11 boot. Silly to make conclusions based on the Graumann's footprints.

  8. Could have been Wayne's shoe, but from childhood, I imagine.

  9. Come on, I lived in Hillsboro for many years. You know it last only a week or so. Try it here where in goes on for 90 days or more non-stop!

That's not Fremont. The year may be right, but not the location.

  11. NHRANUT why not Fremont? One thing I noticed is the back fence isn't painted and covered with sponsor ads. It looks like the Fremont hills in the back ground. That's defiantly me and my mother. We only went to Fremont.

  12. Found this picture on Facebook, Fremont Dragstrip (Baylands Raceway) Same fence, 1970. The Burkholder Bros with their AA/FA in 1970. It's great to see that in 2013 they are still at it. — atFremont Dragstrip (Baylands Raceway).

I was there quite a few times in 1968, and Fremont was nothing like that. I know it changed a lot later on, but more like the mid-70's. There are hills like that in SoCal too, and I tend to think that photo may have possibly been at OCIR.
If you look at the photo, that is obviously the staging lanes. It's all wrong, no matter which way it is going.

  24. I was never at a race in OCIR. I lived in Fremont in the 90's about a mile or two from the old race track, just at the bottom of those hills. It could be a little later that 68/69. I was born in 58, so I look to be what 10 or 12? We moved to the Bay area in 68. The staging lanes always came in from the left of the starting line when pulling up to the line. Not arguing, but I still think it's Fremont. The second picture I posted has the same fence, different spot, but same fence, and it's from a Facebook site about Fremont Raceway. tumblr_n9yv4ySxwJ1txhgk3o1_1280.jpg 427978_471622992895042_1522559597_n.jpg

  25. @Fat ASS Whitewalls is correct ... That's Fremont Drag Strip (aka "Fremont Raceway") ... circa 1968!

The "Found Photos" Tumblr webpage that @swi66 stated he found this color photo:

    tumblr_n9yv4ySxwJ1txhgk3o1_1280.jpg
The (Bill) Brasher & (Virgil) Cummings '33 Willys
circa '68 or '69 at Fremont Raceway (its home track)

... also includes two other color photos ... that were definitely taken at Fremont:

The (Tony & Wayne) Del Rio & (Elwyn) Carlsen '33 Willys
circa '68 or '69 (they ran a blower in '70)
at Fremont Raceway (that's the GM plant at the base of the Mission Peak hills)

    tumblr_n9yv3xWyy51txhgk3o1_1280.jpg
The (Bill) Kenz & (Roy) Leslie "Wynns #777 High Country Cougar" '68 Mercury Cougar Funny Car
circa '68 (in '69 they ran a '69 Cougar body dubbed the "High Country Cougar II")
at Fremont Raceway (Central Chevrolet was the Chevy dealership in Fremont)
