We it has been a while since I have been on here with updates but thought I would share what I have been up to. Replaced all the floors, all made and installed by me. Stripped and repainted the interior. Build all new custom door panels etc. Hope you all enjoy. Bamboo headliner and carpet next.
I know you tradional guys will dis-like it but I am building the car as it would have been built in my favorite era, late 50,s - 60's..specifically in the Calif style. This is the car my brother (RIP) would have built back then. The shift knob and the Tiki hanging from the mirror were his. He was my hero. So here is my new bamboo headliner.
What did you use to paint the floors? Also, I do really dig the bamboo, I don't know who could dislike that.
the entire interior was painted with a basic single stage paint from Summit. Sealed the crud out of all the seams 1st. and thx
door sills done, kick panels done, rear deck done. hog ringed on the covers I have ( circa 1960 ) until I save the $ for upholstery work
not everyone's cup of tea, but my brother was into the "tiki" surf scene in the 60's, he is no longer with us, so a bit of a tribute for me. the skull shift knob was made by him in the 60's as is a tiki medallion that hangs from the mirror.
I like it. Great tribute to your brother ! I built a teardrop trailer a few years back , that would have made a great headliner.
Ian Russel (Full Custom Garage) did a bamboo headliner in a '64 E-100 Van project than played on MAVTV last week.
Thanks for the photos. My first car was a maroon 1949 Dodge Coronet coupe just like yours. Almost forgot what the dash looked like. I'd painted the top of the dash and door garnish white then smoked the wet paint with a propane torch. What did I know back in 1956? Many evenings at the drive in movie in that back seat with screens on the windows.
yes I did, no one makes premade plus it would cost to much for me. If you buy regular "auto" carpet it makes life a lot easier. It does not have the thick backing. Is it perfect? no, but I am real happy with it.
Awesome. Thanks for all the info. I'm getting the Dynamat layed down on my floor tonight and your photos have been a good reference to me putting my interior back together. Didn't do as good of a job as you though. Haha.
Well I am no different than most out there, 12hr work days, 2 sons in college, etc. It took me 2 years just to get the interior done. this is what I started with! but thx and enjoy the project!
