Hot Rods Painted my hubcaps...

Been wanting to do this to keep the red theme going...what do you guys think,should I add a thin red stripe around the edge of the wheel...or would that be too much red?

 

They look great, but wow that was a bunch of tape work there.

 

.....................I think a thin red pinstripe would look great, not on the edge of the wheel, but on the center section of the wheel midway between the edge of the cap and the weld.

 

I'm having a remodel done on my house and there's rolls and rolls of it all over the place...if it was my dime,I would have used some paper,lol!
Good thing is it only took about 5 minutes per cap going that route...and it was fun too!

 

I just did these free-hand 'cause I don't have enough patience to tape 'em. I was reasonably happy with the results. Kinda wish I had used a different brush.

 

Those look great,it's really easy to do when you spray them,then you just wrap a paper towel dipped in lacquer thinner around your finger and gently wipe the paint away where you don't want it.

That looks great. I'd vote for a red pinstripe also.

BTW. What tires are those? Looking for a new set of tires for our roadster. Thinking about radials this time........

thumbs up on a thin red pinstripe. i noted that on The light green car in my avatar a thin red pinstripe just makes the chrome pop unbelievably well.

 

LOL! Well I hope he has enough of that tape left to lay out the pinstripes on the wheels!

I've gotta admit , I expected bad things when I saw the thread title. I was pleasantly surprised. The caps look great. I like the idea of a red stripe.

Hey thanks guys...I never thought of the dual pinstripes,anyone have any pictures?
I haven't snapped any new pics with the red caps but here's the car...I think it'll be the perfect touch.

I would put 2 pinstripes on the rim in the center of the inner hub

 

I used a BEUGLER striper on my TBucket wheels - turned out perfect - that tool is amazing.

 

Did you prep the areas you painted in any way ?

 

that's a nice hot rod.............w/or/w/o paint on the cap's

 

Maybe he used a roller. Does look nice. I use the opposite method; get paint all over everything and wipe it off before it dries.

 

I'm in the double red stripe camp too but both of them 1/16, 1/8 apart. Only cuz you asked...

 

Agree with this...but look awesome as they are too...

 

The paint on the caps looks great, did you scuff them to get the paint to stick? I've tried painting caps like this and my paint never sticks to the cap for long. I have the same caps on my roadster, haven't tried to paint the logos though.

 

Did not scuff them but primed them first before 2 coats of red...used the porta-potty that was at my house during a recent remodel,made for a Great spray booth,lol! I don't expect to have any issues with paint sticking,I cleaned the surface real well beforehand and the trick to removal as I mentioned is to mask as tightly as possible so that you're wiping the least amount of paint off as possible...it may take a bit more time but it works better after a neat scotch or two,lol!
I tried using a towel but there were just too many fibers hanging down,you'll get best results by wrapping a damp paper towel wrapped tightly around your finger...but you must use lacquer thinner.
