    was it a 33 or 34?
    Who built it? Barris?
since it seems as though my racing days are going to be severely limited if at all due to my health I'm beginning to lean towards building or buying a street rod I've always loved the California kid, but with a more period motor like a 430 Lincoln or a nailhead Buick no SBC chit for me way too many 350/350 street rods out there now. ;(

It also had a flathead motor

  4. No, a SBF.

  5. At the time Chapouris created the car, the customizing style he employed was at odds with most contemporary enthusiast thinking, and was generally considered "old-fashioned" in a world where "resto-rodding" (a style of customizing sympathetic to the car's original design and specification) was the current trend.

Yep, when Pete consigned the deal with the studios, he made sure the '34 would be returned in same shape it was as delivered.
And, it had lots of "Road rash", but the studios made good & had the car fixed.

  9. The car was a 34 Ford and built by Pete Chapouris in the early seventy's before there was a Pete & Jake's Hot Rod Repair shop. HRP

Don't tell anyone else I think this, but I think the "California Kid" is a more bitchin' car than Milner's '32....

  11. "Tiger blood ..." Meh ... his son maybe ... but Martin drove the cool frekn' car. Yep. "Boom, crush. Night ... losers. Winning, duh." Sheen-an-igans, and the California Kid rock. Americuh' at it's best ! Ya' gotta' love it.

  12. Here's some irony.....Incidentally, the close-up shot of the car's engine in the movie is not in fact that of the '34 coupe featured, but a masked shot of the engine in another legendary film car, the '32 Ford from "American Graffiti"

  13. That chick on the cover was Jim Jacob's lady for a while too. Playboy or beauty winner or maybe both. Can't remember.

Marty Sheen refused to drive a '34 with a SBF. The studios had to transplant Milner's engine so Marty'd make the movie!
    Honest... I read it in H.R. Deluxe!:D

The car sold to an East Coast Rodder within a year of the show. Crazy money, $25,000 I was told and the car had no interior at the time. Bob

If you ever had the chance to observe Milner's up close, There is absolutely no comparison, Pete wins hands down.
How many of you guys remember Pete's roadster? Did you notice the license plate & what it meant? (SIROD).
That was Pete's mom's name spelled backwards.
And now you know the rest of the story.

Here's a crappy shot of it at Louisville last summer. I didn't get a look under the hood. It's about the coolest 34 on the planet. 2014-08-02_11.44.49.jpg

Goes to prove that the web (even the HAMB) can't be trusted for factual info.

  29. Maybe the coolest street '34 on the planet. The absolute coolest '34 on the planet is blue with 3 large numbers on the doors!
