Technical Home made Intake What is it?

Picked this up a while ago Home made out of alum Sets on angle Mount flange 23.375 overall. Center to center of port mount holes is 2.750 Any Ideas?

 

If it's on an angle, Slant Six maybe?

 

That's what I was thinking. But exhaust ports on slant six are next to intake port. So if I am right it will not work on slant six?

 

Hmm, good point. Don't know anything about Slant Sixes other than they require an angled intake. Uneducated guess.

How about half of a V12? Gotta be something leaning over. Could have been on something that was made to lean for clearance under a hood.

 

Don't know what it fits, but if it was a high school shop project I'd grade it an "A".

It's is well made. Carb mounts made from adapter plates. Maybe some one will have a Idea

 

Back a few years ago guys were cutting V8 heads in two and furnace brazing pairs with 3 combustion chambers each together to make a cross flow head for six cylinder engines to race in certain classes that gave a six a weight advantage. That may be an intake for a setup like that. A search for six cylinder cross flow cylinder head brings up a lot of discussion on Aussie six cylinder heads and some custom heads.

 

I will check on that later today. Good Idea

 

I checked out pictures the Horning/Wayne 12 port head for the early GMC 6 cylinder engines which mount the intake on a angle as shown but the two center ports are spaced about the same distance apart as the end cylinders are so I think you can rule that out.

 

Having run a Horning head GMC, I can verify that is not for a Jimmy. I also ran a Howard head GMC and that was the one with the angled intake. Now known as the Aries head. I think maybe Ford flathead six cylinder engines has a port spacing like that and some were run leaned over in hydroplane racing. So maybe that is where it came from? Pretty neat what ever it fits.

 

One down. This was made a while ago. All I know it came out of a junk yard with strom 97s on it. Maybe some one can I D. Now it's just wall art for my shop

 

It does look a lot like a ford But do not have the specs to see if that's it

Not half of a Cadillac V12. Intake and exhaust were BOTH on the outside of each bank.

 

I don't think so, looking at pictures of Ford six engines.

It's not for a GMC V12, either.

 

Just looked at a flathead Ford six. That's not it. Bolt holes all wrong. Port spacing not right.

 

Maybe for older not US made engine ? Always wanted to know what it was for. Thank all you guys for looking. May still get lucky here!

 

Since there are no exhaust port openings it must be for a cross flow head. OHV something. Jag?

Yup, its a Ford, 144-250", but not your usual bolt-on. The stock intake was milled off of the head, bolt holes were tapped and threaded, then this was bolted on.

Somewhere, I have an Aussie Lynx intake that mounted the same way, turns your stock head into a 2V style head, but it won't work with the factory 2V style intake. K6

Now you'll just have to find yourself a 250-six to bolt up to it.....and a car to put the six into.

That intake is the beginning of some kind of great hot rod for sure.

 

Well got 2 driving toys. So will hang it back up and might find somebody that needs it someday great conversation part over a couple of cold ones on them warm summer nights!!

 

Was the 144-250 six banger a cross flow head? If not what did they do for exhaust ports

The exhaust manifold bolts on at a downward angle and the intake is milled off at an upward angle to fit. This is a pic I snagged off the internet but doesn't show how the intake can be milled at an angle but does show how the exhaust angles down.

 

Now the only thing I do not know is why my intake was built on a angle Boat?

 

I'm going to say the head was milled at an angle for the intake to provide more clearance for the exhaust

 

Sounds plausible.
