I also built a little header, for the Gemsa. Here are some of the prosess steps. and the last two pics are the proofs that it all works together somehow. :)

I found this old Clymer book in my stuff. There is only 6 or so pages on bangers but I thought I would share a picture or two.

  10. Dan McEachern [email protected] 518-532-8228 (6:00 - 9:00 pm PST) makes them for I think $75 Be sure to get the right size for your engine.

  11. I took my #25 Winters gears in my 3.78 rearend, flipped them to 2.84. With over 32" diameter wheels/tires, a friend of mine, with a radar gun, told me that he got a couple of hits on me at 138 mph going down the back straight at AAA Speedway. The valve timing on my engines are designed to reach peak HP and Torque at 4700 rpm. Although the late, great Jay Steele wanted these things to turn as much as eight grand; I told him that my stuff had to live to fight another day! Besides, I think a little bit of math with respect to these long strokers tells us that over 4500 to 5000 rpm, friction will not only bring you to the "Point of Diminishing Returns"; it'll take you to "The scene of the Disaster"!

Nice find Bill bead blast it fit some bigger valves and start on a adaptor plate I have one on my Tee roadster it goes real well and was a lot of fun building it

  16. Yes, the friction is of concern, more so though is the un supported crank and cam. Better parts are available now and so is the technology. The original design was great for its time, better combinations can be made!
One Flat Banger I know of routinely turns it past 6k without any problem, thank God for rev limiters as the power just doesn't fall off till after 6k.

As for the radar guns speed runs, I was testing at Willow Springs with the karts some years ago and had a hay bale show 98 mph down the front straight of the Streets.

See you at the Antique Nationals 28 June 2015 Fontuky raceway.

Did you get that at the Jalopy Showdown on Saturday? I got there late and saw your car but was looking for your bootha nd could not find it. Saw you run, there was a good amont of bangers there. I think Mad Donkey had a speeder there, but did not run on the track ,had a real neat supercharger set up .The Showdown just keeps getting bigger . Good find

  18. what are people running for electrical systems? I am starting with the motor first and was looking at a FSI set up. I am thinking 12 volt negative ground? Just looking to build a fun reliable toy. Rather use newer electronics than carry 4 condensers every time I go out. Thoughts?

I have a FSI in our Speedster with a single module, and a FSI with dual modules ( toggle switch to change modules in case of failure). Both are 12 Volt, Neg Ground, and both cars use alternators. I have not had a problem with either system. They require a minimun voltage, I think 9.5-10 Volts to operate correctly. For added protection you could use a "Painless Surge Protector" that limits voltage spikes to 14.5 Volts, Summit Part Number 40030, about $20.

First Street Ignitions (FSI), they sell electronic Ignition Kits for Model A & B engines.

They are located in Ponca City, OK, www.fsignitions.con

  26. I was considering the FSI Zipper.
Does this have mechanical and centrifugal advance?

The FSI started out as the Per/Lux Ignitor then was rebranded as the Petronix. Micky Remund took over the distribution of Model A and early Ford V-8 distributors and then he sold to FSI. They've been around for 30 years. Commercial applications include irrigation pumps, fork lifts and a host of other pieces of equipment. I've been using them since Per-Lux bought the product.
