We cut out 4 inches. Just enough headroom.

I think I'm gonna leave my white coupe unchopped...I like the visability better..my grey coupe looks cool, so I'll keep one for practicality..sides..I dig the look of the one in my avatar..that kinda what I'm shooting for on this one

That has to be one of the most bitchen looking trucks I've ever seen!!!,,,for a fenderless truck, its perfect!...u nailed it dude!

  5. Sweet ride.

Unless you made that one from a coupe or sedan I think you will find that closed cab pickups have a taller roof than a coupe.

Never the less nice ride, you got it in spades.

4inch chop on mine. Dad and I went very scientific on this. We researched, summoned spirits with an Ouija board, called on aliens and crop circles...then we grabbed the first thing we saw for a refence. 2 inch masking tape. Laid it 2 strips wide (2inch tape x 2 strips...well thats 4 inches!) stood back to look at it shrugged our shoulders and dad started cutting.

  9. Just for reference, did you know that there is no more tape made in 2".
It's all 1.88" now. So unless you had an old roll of 2" made befor the change your chop is 3.76".

About 1 year ago I went looking for 2" tape, none to be found. So I asked the guy and he said "it's been almost a year since I've seen it, but I have 1 roll that came in thru the returns, here. Very well may be the last new roll in the country"

i had a look at two rolls i have in the garage.the 2 inch is 2 inch and the 1 1/2 inch is 1 1/2 inch.thats a surprise everything over here is gone metric which means the new standards are smaller ,thinner or/and shorter

What did you do for the seat and steering?

I have found that 5.5 is the limit for function, which coincidentally is also the limit for a legal windshield. It looks hammered but I can still use a 13 inch steering wheel and a seat that isn't right on the floor. This gives you exactly 6 inches of window at its tightest spot.

I'm 6'2" and asked that question as well...my coupe has a 4.5 chop...I put the seat on the floor and tilted the front to back to get some comfort, then I shortened the steering column by a couple inches..its fine now, just cant see traffic lights if I'm first in line :)

As I found out on the drive down to Austin last month...something to consider when chopping, the steering wheel size.

I am running a 1948 Ford wheel which looks stunning but it certainly feels every bit the 18 inches. Wouldn't change it for the world, a definite focal point.

  27. I agree with you on 18" steering wheels. They look good in any old car. You think it's a bit too big? I wouldn't change it either. I have a pile of parts and, I'm building a Model A in my head for right now.
