Correction. These are nice chrome but not the "show chrome". They are on my "other" '66 F100 with the 418 FE.

I had to build a custom set of headers as nothing avail that would fit properly.

I started off with a cheap hammer & cut it up to make a "die" for pipe to flange fit. I wanted to keep the number of welds per pipe at a minimum. Being step headers I was still able to keep the welds to 3 per tube.

Using this quick easy cheap method it allowed me to make the pipe to flange fit in about 1 minute each!
That got to be the easy part . . I did one end for the 1 7/8" and the other for 2".

I left part of handle so I could tighten in vise.

 

Coming out as far as possible before turning, per a pipe size program I was looking for 12" length on the first step of 1 7/8". Trying to get proper total length in the confines was pretty tight. Getting OLD did not help either.

Crawling in and out from under was a real chore, not so far from 60yr old now so could only do a little each day. I was thinking a week easy but that would have been 20yrs ago! Took me over a month to complete.

Crawl under to measure, forget tape on bench, crawl back out. Get tape crawl back under take measurement. Get back out to chop saw and forget measurement. Crawl back under to get measurment, Forgot tape at chop saw! Quit for the day too tired . . LOL

Dang Timewarp, just awesome work. Looks like you had those nice Mercury valve covers chromed, I was gonna hit you up to see if you wanted to sell them, they look great, headers look great, everything looks great. Outstanding build, love those FE's, got a sideoiler in my coupe and a 390 going in the 65 Ranchero gasser build. Definitely following your 66 build, very impressive....I can definitely relate to the words of wisdom about crawling under and forgetting tape, or measurements, or even what I was doing sometime LOL

I actually have 3 pairs of the Mercury covers . . . The show chrome ones I will keep but the others ya never know . .

Things have improved enough where I can get in trouble on how to spend enough $$ to stay broke . .
I am great at starting new projects but then start to wonder who will ever finish them . .

Here is a Haboob rolling into phoenix! I have lived in Phx for over 25yrs total and until recent never saw anything like it. There are many levels of the Valley Fever. Anywhere from not knowing you have it to actual death. Under 5% of the people that get it where it gets into the lower extremities like what happened to me. Then because of the strong doses of antibiotics it totally messed up my immune system where I became allergic to about any medication of any kind. Especially the antibiotics.
I also became allergic to many different foods, soaps, cleaners and my smell became very very sensitive where I could smell many things others could not. Exhaust fumes being one of those.
And here I am out in shop building FE's. When people ask what I do in shop I tell them I am building Hybrid's. When they ask what type of Hybrid I say they burn both gas and rubber!

Another FE almost done. This will be going into the light blue '66 F100 for dyno testing then to the for sale board.

Started life as a very early 1968 390. Now with a bit of "tweaking" is a 9.9 to 1 comp "418" hoping for more than 450 HP or 350 rwhp.

 

Back to the 427 Project . .

Had to fab up some radiator mounting brackets. And yes, I cut one corner wrong so had to weld it back on . . I blame it on the losing my mind . .

 

for trans cooling lines I took a old c-6 case and screwed it to the wooden work bench just to make it easier to do and not have to bend over . .

 

Box time!

had to fab up new box corners in the "box brake" . . ha

 

I take some heavy plastic and carefully lay it out so its easier to sweep up the media for blasting the box.

 

right at that time the hoist decided to blow a hydraulic hose . .

This is after a major cleanup . .

The lot was soooo perfect and so private.
It was worth the wait of trying to buy this abandoned property.
