One of my fellow modelers on the MCM forum spotted this thing in Tampa a few days ago - I'm seeing Ford wide-fives underneath; anyone know more about it?

Body looks to be mostly hand formed, however, the windshield post looks like it may have been sourced from a 54ish Kaiser C post...

Kinda reminds me of Bucky Fuller's Dymaxion.
Interesting, oddball, and yes it appears to be early 30s Ford based.

Dammit, just read through that person's forum and then lost the link.

I think he's based somewhere near Zephyrhills. Collects and restores oddballs.

Looks like an early effort at a streamlined rear engine car that was never finished. Popular Mechanics showed several such in the thirties and forties. The wraparound windshield looks like early fifties at the earliest. They did not come in until 1955 or so but as Hot points out, it could be a rear window turned around and they started in the early fifties.

That is a Dymaxion, and belongs to Geoff Hacker , the guru of Forgotten Fiberglass - as well as some metal things . I'm sure he will comment.....he is on the HAMB.

Hi Guys...you're right - it's mine. 1937 Gougeon Streamliner. Built in '37 and lost for decades. Ryan covered one of the first stories on it many years ago here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/?p=1929

Here's a test drive of it we filmed when we got the chassis and mechanical restoration mostly done:

If it isn't too stalkerish can I ask where in Tampa? I'm in Brandon and would love to see that in person.

    lots of fun stuff there!

  15. So that thing is longer than a bad dream. Was it intended to be driven on the street or was it an attempt at stream lining for a land speed thing or???

Streetuse. The "cars of the future" were streamlined teardrops in the 30s (and sometimes later). Most were destroyed during the wartime scrap effort to recover metal for the war effort. Just a few survive. I have another one - smaller one - too - that Hemmings has written about. Here's the inspiration used by the designer / builder - Ronald Gougeon - to build this streamliner: [IMG]

Neat car, thanks for sharing the links. It immediately reminded me of a Tatra.

What's wrong with the motor, sounds like it's missing bad.

It was the first day we got it running. Tune up and carb adjustment was done after this first run.

Thanks to all who figured this one out!
Geoff, did you ever find out any history on my friend's Allied Swallow (the white former-coupe-now-roadster in the CA high desert)?

Here's one I stumbled on years ago dumped in outback Australia! No idea about it's history. Obviously home made. Old spoke wheels! xf0z1f.jpg x56wbl.jpg
