Customs Sometimes you just gotta buy it...1955 Chevy

I was cruising Craigslist yesterday morning at 7:30am, and found a new ad for this '55 Chevy 4 door...hmm, nice clean little car...283 2 brl/3 on the tree...new engine/trans/new dual exhaust/new 3-tone blue interior/new 2-tone paint/nice chrome/really nice straight body...wait, is that price for real?!
Called the guy at 7:35am, and found out he lived only 5 miles away and he's owned the car for 8 years and just retired and wanted the space the '55 was taking up to use as a woodworking shop...the car had to go quickly...hence the low price...how could I NOT buy it?...by 8:00am the car was mine.
I could have bought a new '29 roadster body from Brookville for what I paid for this car...I didn't even haggle...I paid his price.
I'll drive it for a little while and fix some minor stuff and then sell it, but for now I like shifting the 3 on the tree again.

The tires are 8 years old and kinda dry checked so they will be replaced..the original vaccumn windshield wipers don't work so I'll put in Newport Eng. electric wipers...the brakes feel a little iffy, might just need adjusting...other than that, everything works on this car as new. Not really a 4 door guy, but it is fun to drive for a while.

I'd do all that and probably be looking for a couple of 2 door sedan doors and prepare to do a 4 to 2 door conversion.
I've seen some really nice ones.
Done properly you would never know unless you were told that they started life as 4 doors.

 

That thing is sweet, Larry. I would be proud to cruise around Owasso in that.

Looks like fun, if it were mine I would be shooting for the "hey look. I screwed with my mom's car!!!" look. Don't know what you paid nor do I care, you bought a whole fist full of fun right there buddy.

My first "old" car was a '57 Bel Air 4 door sedan, 283 2 bbl with an auto. Not hot rod or anywhere near as nice as yours, but holy heck did I have a blast in that car. I was 16 years old, it was my only car. My girl was a freshman in college out of state and I was a senior in high school. Many fond memories of driving up and down the NJTPK to visit her. Congrats on the new ride, hope you have as much fun with yours as I had with mine.

Amazing how much fun you can have in about any old heap when you are young and not pressured to not have fun isn't it.

I am usually down on more doors, but no one said you couldn't have fun in one for sure.

 

Driver for sure, V8 and straight! Bet that was an easy decision to make.
