  2. Maybe he's going to change to a De Soto grill.

  3. You would be correct. And so you know, neither one of the photos you posted are of a Desoto grill. The complete grill is Corvett. The single tooth is 53 Chevy car and the grill in the above mentioned 50 Ford is 54 Chevy car. Similar to Desoto? depends on what Desoto grill your talking about. They all look good in our 49-51 Ford's

Wizards are wise and spend lots of time perfecting crafts that normally go unappreciated ... I agree and now acknowledge my lack of knowledge is apparent ... the average Joe car show visitor wouldn't have a clue as to what grille goes into what vehicle or would he remember if you told him ...

Wow, I thought that grille was DeSoto (it was put in by a previous owner). '54 Chevy, huh? That's fine, I think it looks pretty dang cool. You guys know your stuff, thanks. I went from resurrecting VW buses, to Jeeps and now this. I'm gonna learn a lot during this process.

The 54 Chevy grille is the most commonly used grille in 49-51 Fords other than the stock ones. They look better with extra teeth added like yours does. What else did the seller tell you.

Well, he didn't tell me much. Short back story: I was visiting family in Oregon, toured my uncle's yard and shop and this one really caught my eye. He got it from a guy well into his eighties who belonged to an Old Ford Club and was in the process of building the car. What I do know is that it has the 8BA flathead with Fenton headers - the rest of the motor looks stock, but...? This uncle of mine has probably 30 shoebox Fords laying around, some of them hacked up into gassers, some rusting away in a cow pasture.

So, the guy has treasures (Edsels, Studebakers and Camaros are prominent), and since I was a little kid I've been fascinated by all this cool stuff.

I'm going to dig into this project, and I promise I won't geek it up.

Maybe it's just me, but I fail to see what's custom about the latest six cars in this thread.

The ford is nosed, decked, has lincoln push buttons, and what appears to be a custom grille, so I dunno either.

I think nitrobrother was just educating Hollister Kopp (top of page) about the different DeSoto grilles.

My bad! I forgot about the Chevy/desoto grill confusion a few pages back. Makes sense now.

  20. The grill in that Ford is from a 1956 Plymouth. I think even the turn signals are.

  25. haha Yeah I know. I'm friends with the current owner. I was hoping for the color to be a little more "green" than it is, but I love it either way. I love that starliner and it's probably one of my favorite cars out there. My turd will never touch that thing though. Such a beautiful car. I think mine leans a liiiitle ore in the "Lowrider" direction than the starliner. Or maybe I'm just trying to justify it. ha

Dude, give yourself some credit, your chevy is kick ass! I'd drive it till the wheels fell off!

  27. I remember a good twenty years when Customs were passe' and Muscle cars ruled nearly everything. If it wasn't for Lowriders, I doubt we would have seen a resurgence of Customs in the '80's continuing until today with this generation of Traditional Custom Cars. When you really get sick of it, I'll be first in line to take it off your hands.....The Chevy is Beautiful........Centurion9

54chevy1.jpg My old 54 Chevy was probably a bit more than a "mild" custom. Not chopped, or anything radical, just frenched Merc headlights, frenched Lee lenses out back, nosed, decked, shaved, modified stock side trim, extra grill teeth, and welded and peaked hood. Probably closer to full custom than mild.
