Once a year there is a Vargo Dragway reunion. The farmer that owns the property uses the strip for small planes now but the first weekend of November it is a show field. Many of the old cars come out and someone still has the original Xmas tree.

Pretty cool piece of advertising, new family car with the brand new 283 dusting off the old Ford flattie hot rod on a mountain road. (although it's kinda chicken shit they didn't stop to help)
Barely 3 years after, if we assume this ad is from late '56, Zora Arkus-Dontov's letter "Thoughts Pertaining to Youth, Hot Rodders and Chevrolet" was sent to his new boss at Chevy which brought the Vette, the SBC and it's the legendary parts program for that engine, Chevy had to be feeling pretty good.

  11. Thanks for the pictures from PA. , and the cool video. Great stuff!!:D Mikey.

    I love this pic:

You can imagine the guy going home that night and his wife asks "How was your day at work, Dear?

    "Oh, quiet, quiet, you know..."

He says with a wistful look in his eye.

Unless these two gents were very short... those are massive tires. Anyone have an idea of what the diameter of those tires were back in the day? 40"? Thanx, Gary

This one looks like a "grownup" minibike. (Yes, there's a motorcycle in the picture, if you look for it.)

Portland, OR 1938 Demonstration for the press of their new Fagoels & KWS all locally built. The 2 KWs where done by a local body builder Wentworth & Irwin who built lots of fire trucks over the years.

  28. In its present form the car is on 21" rims. I saw it at Brooklands Museum about a year ago. I have a pic I took but can't read the tyre section size. If they were 7.00s then the o d would be about 35".

In the pic here those guys are quite a long way back from the car. It is a well documented car. Just do a Google image search.
