Put down the foil faced material on my steel floor other Hambers used. Some said now a jute material and then a rubber mat. Interior is going to be done in aluminum only thing upholstered is the seat. Floor I'm looking to do a rubber mat type. Want ideas on best way to do it. Like to see a pic of yur floor too .....................

  2. The jute is really needed to keep mats from moving around by your feet.rubber or carpet

I thought jute was like a pad that went under the rubber mat?

Probably could. Jute is usually under carpet.

Jute is a natural fiber and can cause more problems than it helps, paricularly if sandwiched between two non-breathable materials (if it gets damp, it will get moldy). Better idea is to use an ordinary synthetic "no-slip" kitchen drawer shelf liner material to keep the rubber mat from slipping on the sound/heat deadener.

  8. i have wanted to try using the thick "horse mat" they sell at tractor supply. it would act like a sound deadener and mat all in one.

I'll look at it at Tractor Supply Texture is a factor too

  10. Have used Tractor supply mat, a little on the thick side and a bitch to cut, but will last 4evr and really insulates and dampens the sound..

Always thought that a rubber floor mat looks best in a hot rod, and carpet looks more appropriate in a fancy street rod or show rod.

I see they have 1/4 and 3/8 too I look at those. I'd like a solid black too though. That stuff has specks of grey or white ???

If this is for your 32 Coupe you can get a front mat that is drop in from some of the vendors. I've got stock rubber mat set in my 29 Tudor, no jute and used stock mounting fasteners to secure. Lays down nicely and looks great. You may need to be a bit creative covering pre-cut holes if you don't need them. You can check out MAC's for a quick picture then shop around.

Looks like MAC's search defaulted to pickups. On the search for parts block select 32-48 passenger car and enter floor mat in the part name. You'll get them all just scroll down.

How are you guys getting the mat to form to the floor? Will a heat gun work to form it or does the mat lay down ok?

I just finished up making a floor cover for my coupester and thought I'd share a couple of photos. I made it from an old pickup truck floor liner that had laid out in my barnyard for 15 years. Turned out great I think. Total cost? Zero!
