Hot Rods Where have all the 6/71 blowers gone?

I have always run blowers on my rods .in the past I have run both Wade and GMC blowers. I,m in the U.K.and have been looking for a 6/71 for my Hemi ,they don,t seem to be turning up in the scrap yards any more, found a 4/71 for a mate but no 6/71s. Is it the same in theU.S? Rather convert one myself than spend big money on one.

We still find 'em here. I don't see as many "good deals" on them as I used to but they can still be found.

Two stroke Detroits haven't been made for about 20 years now, all types of parts for these engines are getting hard to come by.

 

Local scrap yard I attended had them all over the place..Probably still does but won't let pickers in now..

 

Last one I got cost me £70 about $100.

 

thats about right.

 

What's wrong with a Wade? I'm just setting up one in a '39 Railton Straight 8.

The days of inexpensive 6/71 GMC blowers have come and gone..remember it's been a long time sense they have been standard equipment. HRP

Hey Steve, look at the name of the sailboat on post #12 (Odyssey)

 

We've run lots of them through the shredder.

 

As was said, they came on Detroit Motor look for old earth moving equipment lots of them had the Detroit motor in them, that where I would start the search if I was looking for one.

 

That,s where I used to get them from, but they don,t seem to turn up around here anymore.

I always wanted to own a two stroke Detroit Diesel!
I really dig them. The are odd, weird and sounds awesome in a truck. The sound of a 8V71, 6-71 and the 4T-53 is awesome.

But that's just me.

There is some videos on YouTube, among them is a 1954 Jimmy running a 4T-53 with Air pressure starter and a jake brake, running true a 4speed and a brownie box.
He is running it down the street, double clutching and twin stick shifting it.

That video, on my TV, and running the sound true my speaker system, makes my pants Fit all funny! I know I'm weird! But damn.


And to answer the question; have no idear where they went, but not many of them ended over here. The few who run blowers, usually goes for Weiand or B&M.
But that might be because Detroit Diesels are rarere (more rare) then hens teeths

Nope not just you, i'm just as strange.. I've wanted to put a Detroit in a truck for a looong time just havent done it yet.
And i've seen those vids many times, awesome!

As for the topic of where the blowers went, i just assumed that many have been scrapped simply due to age and usability.
Unless you're a hotrodder, or a two stroke diesel nut many probably dont give a damn about them because the average guy can buy a new one through a catolog.
Personally id much rather have a cast finish GMC over any new one regardless of how efficient they may be.

I started looking for another core a couple months ago myself just to have one here.
This is the last one i picked up about 5 years ago...now nestled under the hood of my 32

Not sure why I remember this story, but when I was a kid in the mid 60's; a friends older brother who had just got out of the Navy told us they dumped a pallet of NEW 671's in San Diego bay.
He was really pissed that they wouldn't let him have one to put on his 58 Chrysler 392 New Yorker.
