I like where you are going with your build. 59's got a lot of style and should make a nice eye popping ride. Did my own design on my current 56 ElCamino from a 210 Wagon. Nicest compliments are the ones that say it looks factory. I have driven it to Detroit for Woodward the last few years and it gets it's fair share of head scratching and people who think it was a long lost GM concept design. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/some-pics-of-my-friends-1956-elcamino.399170/ After checking a ton of ideas others had done, I found the rear window area is where a lot of these builds loose it and do not flow well with the design. Like you I collected and tried a lot of extra parts, built some toy models and came up with a design of what I thought the car might look like if it had been built in 56. I am also now doing something similar with a mid 60's Malibu 4dr Wagon that I have turned into a 2dr Nomad with a little Tri-5 Nomad inspiration. Good luck and have fun with your build. Does anyone know what the measurement for a 2-door hardtop piece of door glass is? I'm try to get the door glass frame built and I'm unsure what the length is. Thanks.
What did you have to modify to fit the hardtop vent windows to the El Camino doors? Love the project btw
I have a pair of 60 Pontiac hard top doors I'm using for the swap. I removed the door tops and the window channel. Cut out and welded in the sheet metal that the hard top window channel mounts to. The lower mount is already stamped in the door. Cut out the wing window mounting so the hard top wing window will mount. Still have to install the inner brace that stops the window from rolling up to far. Hardest part was getting the door top off.
As soon as I get to the other door, I will post pics. I didn't take any pics when I modified the drivers door 10 years ago.

I ended up painting the new frame for the car today. Didn't get to do much on the body. But got the door jam removed and the new door close. More tomorrow...
This was my Sunday. Got the frame painted. Got to finish mounting the new power steering box. Using the steering out of a 1994 caprice. I have to modify the rail for the idler arm but it's going to work out pretty slick. No more ball and stud for the pitman arm.
just wondering, are you trying do decide which way to go? it looks like the drivers door is off a hard top and the El Co door on the passengers side. i'd vote for the hard top, if there was a poll
I'm going hardtop. I haven't modified the passenger side door yet. I'm trying to get the midsection trimmed and in. So I needed doors in to get them latched for placement.
Looks great there! Every day I click on this thread to see how you're doing. The old idler setup left a little to be desired.. Is your new box a ''605''? The Merc in your frame pic really caught my eye as well. Raymay - Please PM me with a pic of the A body you're working on if you can, A bodies are another passion of mine. Your "El Camino'' is really nice. Thought it came from a Nomad.
