Projects 1952 Buick "Pearl" a factory custom. My first chop

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by LiveActionMotorsports, Mar 19, 2015.

  1. 1952 Buick special currently rebuilding the 263 straight 8 adapted to a th400 and an 12 bolt axle. Chopped, nosed , decked, shaved, frenched, 54 Buick grille to come (searching) 55 Buick tail lights and 55 rear Buick bumper (searching) my goal for this car is to do a lot of custom mods but keep that factory Buick style, as if you could have ordered a custom from the factory and using all Buick parts.

After measuring 4 thousand times and doing my homework I finally made the cuts! Ended with 2.5" in the front and 3" in the rear. At first I was going to use a 51 Chevy rear window but decided to ditch it and go back to the 3 piece. No comment on the carpentry skills on the floor above the crewcab project. Is there a HAMB build on that truck project? Bob

Not the easiest chop to be your first chop but it looks great so far.. That's going to be one "BAD BUICK" when you get done.. Keep at it...

I think that there is a law that during every top chop that a pic must be taken while the roof is off; looking like a roadster. Somewhere in an old photo album I've got pix of Clarence in "roadster form". It was way before digital cameras, though.

Cool project - what will you do about the windshield? The37Kid is observant. unless you add some type of supports to the above floor by the truck it may get some unexpected custom work with the floor gives out.

Please tell us more about the car. It's already a Dreamboat!
    What makes it low?
    What makes it go?
    Further plans?

P.S. I'm also curious how the lack of door handles matches the patina'ed paint?!

No turning back at this point. Looking good.

  26. That will keep you captured in the hobby for a long time. I did my first chop at age 14 (58 Years ago) to a friends 30/31 coupe. The only thing I knew how to do was braze, so that's how it went together. Paint by Sherwin Williams spray bombs. The car never got on the road and went to scrap shortly after it was done. I never looked back and never found a hobby I liked better.
