The 1951 Larry Ernst Chevy Barris Kustom will be on display this weekend at Detroit Autorama. My grandfather, owner and restorer of the car, agreed with to Brothers Custom Automotive of Troy MI to take the car out of storage and give it the TLC it deserved. Hope everyone gets to check the car out and big thanks to Brothers Custom for making it happen! 11041822_1053889641291038_6272740681827070597_n.jpg

I'm looking forward to seeing it, Rik Hoving posted some great shots of it outside under the People Mover (tram to nowhere) tracks with the Ren Cen in the background. Great!

Cool to see it out in public, it's been awhile. Your grandpa and family are old friends of our family going back to the early 70's. I grew up in the back seat of a hot rod just like your mom. I'd heard you were the new caretaker of the hiboy, congrats! Hope Burns is doing well. PJ

My favorite barris car. My favorite version is the colors of fall... But the blue is pretty damned great too.

  16. Saw it today - what a beauty! The colors are really sharp. Never thought I would like orchid on a custom, but the Ernst custom carries it off perfect on the roof. It's was fun to take in all the design elements.

Certainly an icon! Possibly the first Bel-Air ever chopped ?
Thanks to all who made it possible to be seen and enjoyed again.

    'Mo...

Yes, you're right this was the first chopped Bel-Air.

In one of my earliest Interviews with George Barris, he gave me the Info on this iconic Bel-Air and, Larry Ernst. PLUS, we also covered the legendary "Barris Shop Fire" and the "Ala Kart" in our discussion. To hear George's Interview which is spot-on & very cool, simply Click-On-This-Link: http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage24.html

My best to all...this is one of the MOST IMPORTANT Barris Kustoms ever built, and hearing George tell the story makes the build truly "come alive" !

I have never seen it in person but is my #1 favorite custom car. I wish I could stare at it for an hour or three.

Just Love that car! I've had the honor to be in your Grandfathers garage. Wow amazing amounts of custom and hotrod history! I so enjoyed sitting listing to him and Fay who lives in my town talk. They have known each other for 50 yrs. The story of this car, Burns and Larry is great!
