As said before there's no vibration damper on the 153, just a small hub for the pulley to bolt onto.
I swapped a 153 into an O/T 47 CJ2A Jeep. With stock 5.13 gears the engine is always turning high rpm and runs very smooth with just the stock pulley....The stock Jeep Go Devil engine didn't have any damper either...

Had this 153" Nova motor and air cooled powerglide in my 36 Willys sedan. Drove the shit out of it and was very happy with it. Sold it around 1979 and saw it again in the street rod nats around 88 in Columbus. Guy that now owned it loved it.

  8. Just picked up a Mercruiser 140 head and finned valve cover/valley cover for my 153... wondering if I should have grabbed the cam (the lifters looked VERY clean with just a little wear).

Here is the intake/exhaust set up I'm working on for the 153 thats going in my '26 Chevy roadster. There is a little cutting, welding, and port fitting to do but not really much as compared to building from scratch. It looks cool too!

This one is 1/2 of a set of Fenton Black Widow headers for an early small block Chevy, with front mounts. I've been thinking about this for years but couldn't find one side. Patrick happened to have one from a set that was broken in shipping.

Does anyone know how far you can bore a 153 out... I ended up with a motor .30 over. Wondered how much meat is left on it?

I think they would be like the 6s of the same family and be safe to .060 though some blocks can go more.

You can put a 250 ci balancer on the 153 ci motor. I did.

I haven't read this whole thing so if I repost, please disregard.

I want to say that "Langdons" is into Chevy II 4-bangers.

I disagree, it didn't even cost me as much as a SBC for the Chevy Nova motor in my Willys, pistons are same as SBC, cam is same price w/ 8 less lifters and valve springs, intake may be a little more, carb is same price, header is comparable but you only get one. Balancing a 4 cyl. is cheaper and to top it off you only pay for 4 spark plugs. I love these motors.

Mine is costing less than a V8 would have and if I decide to build more of them they will be even cheaper because of things I have learned.
