Blown 56 chevy gasser build for 2017 meltdown or bust

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fast30coupe, Jan 19, 2015.

  1. i run solids with a mid plate on all the cars i build. i have never had a problem. the mid plate helps tie every thing together. the engine and trans become part of the chassis not just bolted into it. a added plus using one the trans can be removed without supporting the engine.

The car will have a mid plate and a pretty serious roll cage.

I post right after I finish something because I'm to impatient to wait until normal hamb hours. I've been following your thread too.

Those are to lock the flip front end in place with a quick release pin.
Here's where the pin goes into on the frame this is also a stop for then the flip from end opens. A lot of people use cables but I wasn't a fan of that.

Here is the flip front end you can see the block for the pin and also a piece of 3/4 square to stop on top of the frame piece.

And here is a picture of the pin in with the hood up

Here was my Sunday morning. I should've waited to do this but I'm working on small stuff before it goes for the roll cage and this idea was burning in my head I needed to make it reality.

So the jerico has no speedo provision that's fine, but I didn't want to just have a dead speedo in the dash. So I decided to build a gauge panel for the water temp and oil pressure
    Template
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1425233749.132663.jpg
Scripted out on aluminum I think .050 thick
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1425233790.018534.jpg
    Cut out
    And in the OG bezel

    Gauge layout

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1425233875.775235.jpg
Holes cut you can also see the small tabs I built to hold the panel in. Came out pretty slick.

    Finished product

Then I had to see it in the car

That piece is awesome but it is begging to be machine turned.
Of course that is just my opinion

image.jpg image.jpg Your front end flip brackets are super nice nothing like the 60s ones on my old 56. Your dash is killer going to be a outstanding car

wow if they gave an award best 56 chevy your going to get it outstanding you are inspiring me to get off my butt and fix mine

  16. i know you already made the dash and it is killer. i had the same speedo issue with my g-force. auto meter has a gps unit that works with a electric speedometer. i run one and it works great. just a option if you still want a speedo in the car

I was thinking that but don't want to open a can of worms. I'll have the polished dash trim and other aluminum interior parts

I was thinking that but plan on running a magneto or at least trying to at first. So I was worried about it not working right any thoughts on that?

Yeah it would b a slippery slope. 1st it would be the dash insert. It would look good and you would think "Man that's Bitchen" Yes your inside voice would actually say "Bitchin". Before you know it you would be standing over a smoking drill press laughing like a madman and your whole car would be engine turned. :)

  21. i never tried it when i had a mag in the car. I have been down that road with a mag in a blown car. yes they do work but a msd works so much better. the multiple spark helps keep plugs clean. a built in rev limiter is a huge plus. shift lights, two steps, timing retards and a host of other items make running a mag much more difficult compared to a msd. hide the msd and no one knows unless you tell them.

I guess I'll learn my excuse is I'm young and dumb I'm only 24. I'll try the mag for a little while. I'm going to run a hilborn angle drive so my only option for the msd distributor would be to modify one from a hemi or could I use the msd box with a Mallory dual coil?

  23. what mag were you planning to run and its original aplication. what ever that is call msd they should have a base and shaft. one other big msd advantage is you can lock out the advance. doing that and using a msd-7 with boost retard will go a long way to help keep the engine happy and trying not to melt itself down. blown engines need something to control detonation under boost. the box does just that.
