Kontinentals on the road from Austin to Pomona

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by beatnikontinental, Jan 20, 2015.

  1. The Austin Speed Shop boys are putting together a booth full of killer recent builds at the GNRS this year, so we decided to bring The Jewel out for its first trip to the west coast to represent the ATX. To really do it in style - we loaded her up on El Jefe's newly acquired '56 Ford 350 car hauler - the new tow rig for Dave's Perfection Automotive and the Team 111 dragster. Darren Wenzel of Gasoline Art had just enough time to lay some lettering down on the cab before we loaded her up.

El Jefe has the hammer down and we are rolling westward. See y'all in the highway and I'll post updates from the road.

Looks old school cool! Safe travels.
So I'm not the only guy with a closet full of old Blue Monday & Twine Time show cassettes.
Paul is still serving up the good stuff on Saturday nights, but I miss his blues shows - learned most of what know about blues from him. Paul's an Austin treasure. Anybody remember that Stevie Ray was once a (non-singing) guitarist for Paul Ray and the Cobras? Lots'a talent from that band.

Hey Yum Yum, great car. I am also drooling over that decal of the 58 OK nationals on the window. I was there as a spectator that year and my friend Don Govro down in Victoria (from Austin in 58) won class that year in OKC. Think he even set a record with the win but not positive. If One of those decals were to be avalible it would absolutely thrill him & Delores if it made its way to one of our club meetings in Victoria. They are still very active in our AACA chapter in victoria. I would be glad to buy one for him if one is avalible.
I would think a bunch of you guys in Austin would remember Don as he was very active on the speed scene in Austin for quite some time back then.
He does not race any more but he still loves it every time someone brings it up & gets him to talking about that period in racing.

  30. El Jefe gets tragically run over by the towrig - actually making the first quick roadside repair, tail pipe came loose and hit brake line was leaking - back up and running now as we hit the California border. Another quality service by Daves Perfection's mobile unit. "Your Satisfaction is our Success"
