I just can't believe how many of these trucks have found their way into my yard the last while, here's 3 out of 5 that were cluttering up the driveway....:D:D:D The silver 66 is already at a new home and the black 60 is one that I am going to keep for a driver for my self. The 60 GMC 4x4 is still here after having it advertised for sale for the last year or so, nobody stepped up with the cash and all I got were a ton of trade offers for crap I didn't want. The down fall is I don't have papers and the truck is located in Canada which deterred quite a few people, so it's slated to be a parts donor for another project...

    Hi guys,
I am new to this forum. I bought my -64 C10 in August 2006. It had a 283 with a Z28 intake (pretty unusual intake choice for a truck), a 3-on-the-tree where second gear was broken, and it ran on 6 or 7 cylinders, which made the 500 mile drive home interesting... This picture is taken a few minutes after the purchase.

On the way home one of the probably 30 year old Kelly Charger tires decided it was time to head for the promised land.

This is how the surviving one looked like when I got home... The right one is what I put on instead of the disintegrated tire in order to get home. Rougly the same size, eh?

    In October 2009, I put in a 5-speed HM290 from a Chevy 1500 from -88.

In September 2010, I lowered the truck by putting in Öhlins shocks and springs (I work there as a shock absorber designer). The springs have adjustable spring perches, so I can tailor the ride height.

That made it look this way:

The truck is used for everything from going to car shows, to making road trips, to hauling trash to the land fill.

In September 2012, I put CPP drop spindles and front disc brakes on.

As a temporary solution, the front wheels from the -88 pickup were put on.

In May 2013, the old peg leg rear end was swapped out for a 12-bolt posi rear end with CPP disc brakes.

I also put on some REV Classic 100's.

I have some REV wheels for the front too, but I will need to redrill the bolt pattern first... The rear end will be lowered more in the future. Note the nice cow patch paint! It all started when I pressure washed the truck and some of the paint peeled off. I later decided to get all the paint off, so as of September 2014, this is how it looks now:

I will probably keep the primer/patina look for years to come, but maybe I will restore it and paint it like this at some point:

Howdy! Thanks! What a coincidence, I have spent quite a bit of time in Hendersonville! I work for Öhlins Racing in Sweden and have made numerous business trips to Öhlins USA in Hendersonville!

  13. Just picked this one up. 1961 Chevy Apache c30.
It's a solid truck to build on, but a long way from a daily driver. I was sucked in by the obnoxiously beautiful hood of the 60-61 trucks.
Plans include a 73+ front suspension to gain power steering and disks, 14 bolt rear with a more street friendly ratio (currently 5.14), and a re-power.
    Currently leaning toward a turbo'd 250.
Will leave the outer appearance of the truck alone, but might swap to an older commercial flatbed.

Opinions, and build direction are certainly welcome!

Here's one I built 20 odd years ago, sorry about the crappy wheels, but they were "in" at the time. Ground up , pine bed, it was a nice truck. Wished I still had it. 2014-03-06_20.07.04.jpg

  18. ive got dozens of those 60 thru 66 trucks. My daily drivers are 66 GMC,s I would post picture however I don't know how with the new format. Where is the paper clip?

  19. Ive got a 60 SWB fleetside big back glass, Factory V8 auto. And it doesn't have any of the factory stainless trim. painted grill & bumpers. Probably a rare combo?

Finished the custom side trim on my C10 over the weekend. Using some used OEM trim I modified the layout from what was used at the factory. There's more details in regard to the trim in my build thread.

Chevy never installed factory side trim on their step side beds, circa 1963 thru 1966 trucks. Even when they used side trim on the cab and front fenders, no trim on the bed? So, I figured I'd jump in where the factory left off.

The added white color on the rear fenders balances out the two tone paint. Kind of an homage to the Bel Air trim Chevy used on their factory Hot Rods.
