Features The Hot Rod Dash... Again...

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Ryan, Nov 3, 2014.

  1. The speedometer & tachometer are both 5", the other gauges are 2 5/8" smooth bezel.

    I talked a good friend out of a few more SW 2 3/8 rear mounts so I finally bit the bullet and drilled some holes. I'm a little bit closer to filling them all. Just a few more.

    I like your dash, can't help but wonder what it would look like if the center panel were rotated
    180 degrees? Just a thought.

    I was on the fence about flipping it 180. The curves didn't match which bothered me so I kept it as you see it in the pic.

  9. Those temp gauges are identical to mine...brass case, horizontal mounting tab, ridiculously long bourdon tube, black bezel (or at least, mine was til I stripped the paint off of it - it's nickel plated underneath)...unfortunately, my date code is illegible, but it does share identical construction and very similar inspection markings with an ammeter that's dated April, 1944. I'd be interested to know what date codes your temp gauges have...

    My suspicion is that these were designed for marine use (brass cases) and possibly military applications (black-painted bezels). Anyway, that's a damn fine dash. Well done!!

  10. Here's a pic of my temp gauge and the date stamp (M4) on the ammeter;

    They are identical. I will check the date code when I get home tonight.

    It looks like v5, may of 52. The original boxes also have the 1952 date on them as well.

  17. 34 ford top rail grafted to 34 chevy bottom. Champion cluster with So Cal gauges. I have a complete set of S/Ws but when lit at night, they are so damned dusty inside, I couldn't read them. 34dashpainted.jpg

    My Model A dash, its two 49 Ford dashes cut in half & blended together, done in the 60's by the original builder.

    There are two things a good driver will see a lot of, the hood and of course the dash. Here is the 40 car dash I put in my 40 pickup. Just love how it made the whole truck pop! The gauges are a set I made up and another set for Tony Miller's Custom 40 Ford Convertible displayed at GNRS.

    It's Latin for the Faithful... online translations can be done by "Babblefish".
