Ha ha. I hear u Bluto. I'm on my second cup. Yes I have wrenches and I'll stick a breaker bar on it this afternoon. I pulled the plugs and put some oil on top of the Pistons on Saturday. Should be down on the rings by now. May stick a little fogging oil in as well before trying to fire it. I found out one of the past owners dads retro fit a ford 390 12v starter so I'm going to pull it and see if it will spin with some juice. Plans are late 40's banger coupe. 5 inch chop and black wheels and black bias plys. 3-4 inch dropped axle and little drop out back. Mechanical brakes and maybe 6 volt so I can stay with the original genny. I've always wanted to build a coupe like I think a kid right outta high school working at the local mechanics shop would build. Tight budget but wants a hot rod.
I use some rare and exotic stuff to free stuck engines. It's called diesel fuel!!!! For twenty years my daily driver was a 1939 GMC pickup

It's an old lakes car .... the cage rules and such mean destroying it with a safety stuff so no Bonneville. It had a blown Olds and will now get my blown Ardun. The car is really on the back burner but it goes on I've not mentioned it here because it's not banger powered. There is not a single Ford part in my Ardun. Only old part are the carbs It's just one of our projects

I am running original 6v. Its still the original wiring setup and was planning on changing the ignition circuit this winter. It seem screwy the way Ford designed it.
Yes, All A Fords were positive ground- was supposed to cut down on corrosion around battery, Didn't. Herb
anyone have any insight on running a cable driven tach on a model A? was there ever a "kit" or distributor with tach drive for ford bangers? I don't recall seeing on, but am no expert. Mainly interested in older vintage stuff produced by a company or hand made. thanks

Mallory made one, Jim Brieley mentions one from a Datsun that can be adapted to A B engines. Jim's book is a good investment when building an engine. It is very informative and covers most of the newbies questions. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I am planning on using a Stewart Warner mechanical tach driven off the crank with a 2-1 crank drive. I still need to make a mount as there is not much room near the crank pulley. Just got to much other stuff to do first. I read somewhere about using a Mallory MGB tach that has a drive attached. Part number 2432001. Not sure what years these were available.
Interesting, that looks the same as the one listed for ford tractors. but half the cost. I was having a brain fart about even the possibility of gen mounted.... But really that AC kit sounds like what I am looking for. Any pictures? is this the correct email address for him? [email protected] I'd like to buy a book from him. I need to invest in more literature. What you describe is my go to plan, I'm just exploring other options. like what Bluto described with the ac stuff, thanks for all the suggestions guys.
@Hitchhiker, check into late 30's-40's Nash generators; had an output shaft out the back to turn the water pump - could be adapted for a tach. You'd probably have to fab a mount for the gen, do some machine work on the output shaft to mate to a gearbox, then measure your pulleys to get the correct gear ratio. I'm looking into this option myself...
Why would you look for a old piece like that when you can buy a done new piece for $50? Sorry I like done rather than start looking. I do understand the hunt and "Build" is fun....... Period AC tach kit. With an angle drive.....
