    Just stumbled on this video:

Looks like surface rust only and wouldn't work for seams etc. but still pretty fricken cool none the less.

  2. If it works, E.P.A. will outlaw it soon.

Not true- they just will outlaw everything to cover it to prevent rusting!

Any clues as to how ferric and ferrous are sent packing?

Source: Laser Cleaning with High Power Short Pulse Laser: "Laser cleaning is a process that removes scale, oxides, dust and oil from materials. Using a short-pulse laser, the surface is cleaned to the bare metal quickly and with minimal heat affect. It can be an in-line or batch process performed directly prior to a process that requires a clean, bare metal surface. The fiber delivered TRUMPF TruMicro 7050 accomplishes this with a laser power of 750 watts and a pulse duration of 30 ns."

Yup. For now all I have is my 10 year old craftsman angle grinder and a wire wheel but it's cool to dream!

I need one of those big enough to move a whole car through. Like a car wash. With primer guns at the end.

salt.jpg Here is another recent way to get rid of rust.
Have not tried it but maybe someone should?

That's cool. If like to try that. I by it's relatively inexpensive and since it's already used in our water systems disposal should be safe and easy.

I'm gonna bump this to see if anyone else has any input of how it works (lay mans terms) and what it costs?

There has been a video of a laser rust/paint removal setup floating around FB for the past couple of weeks.
This one. I'd imagine that the equipment is quite spendy at this time.

If it doesn't show a rusty panel with slots in it sitting on a work table hit the refresh button on the bottom of the video.

Yeah... for starters, both videos showed other than sheet metal. The first is about 1/4" thick steel, the second is cast iron.
Is the rust really removed, or just the colour changed? How is the cleaned surface for painting?

    It sure looks cool.

You can get a little backpack one for just $80k.

    Traditional?

  25. There was another thread on this last week.
At almost 500K, I'll stick with molasses and blasting.
