Features 1937 to 1942 Willys Picture Thread

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Hot Rod Willys, Jan 15, 2011.

  1. Yeah, sort of. Big Jim Haase managed the Rockville Center S&K Speed, but the business was owned by the same owner in Farmingdale. My dad got the car from Big Jim and loved the way the car looked with the paint and silver leaf, so he left it that way the entire time he had it. He told me that the guy that he sold it to told him he was going to take the lettering off the car and my dad got mad and never talked to the guy again.

This nose is off of the Tarantola Bros. Coupe out of Brooklyn, NY. In this picture, it's sitting on my uncle's original Willys. I remember this nose hanging on the wall behind the car that 1940WILLYS has now when Frankie Calabro and my uncle Roger Brandow rented a garage together. As a side note, my uncle's current Willys has the doors from the Eastern Automotive car on it. He and Frankie must've gotten the nose and the doors together. 38mph.jpg

  3. The above nose got removed from the Tarantola Bros. car do to the next owner (Louie D'donato) of the car pulling a very high wheel stand and bending the frame. My uncle was a neighbor of Louie's and my dad actually worked with Louie.

I saw this 41 Willys at this year's Antique Nationals at Fontana, Ca. The car is all steel and seems to be pretty complete. Does anyone have more information on this car? Thanks, Dick M 140629 Antique Nationals 140.jpg 140629 Antique Nationals 143.jpg 140629 Antique Nationals 148.jpg 140629 Antique Nationals 149.jpg

  6. I posted that. That was my dad's favorite picture of the car. It was parked in front of my grandparents' house in Lindenhurst, Long Island, NY. He found some more that he wants me to scan in for him. One of them is an advertisement for Westhampton Dragway where the car is pictured pulling a wheelstand. The other is when the car was lettered from S&K Speed with the original steel '40 nose on it.

  8. Thank you 1934coupe. My dad would like to see what the car turned into. After 35 years, we're sure that not one thing is the same on the car, but we'd just like to know if it's still out there.

When I look at the scoop it sure reminds me of the CC Rider. Do a search in this thread for CC Rider and look at the scoop and see what you think.

  10. Did Willys ever build a sedan delivery during the 33 through 42 production era? HRP

In 34-36 they made a delivery that had a single rear door but looked more like a panel truck. Some argue it wasn't a true "sedan delivery". They did not make a SD from 37-42.

  12. Thought I pretty much answered that question when you asked it on the other thread how many Willys did they make?

  13. It sure does look the same, but I don't think they're the same car or nose. My dad had the Haase Bros. car from 1978 - 1981, but Big Jim Haase was racing it in the 60's and had it stored when my dad got it. The 2 cars were racing in the same time frame. Maybe the same company made the 2 noses? The Haase Bros. car was a '40 and had the steel nose on it until it crashed, then the fiberglass '41 nose went on.

Marrs Brothers were from Monrovia, my home grounds. This pictures appears to be from Pomona.
