Is anybody on here attending the 2015 Power Tour or thinking about it? I signed up and plan to long haul it with my 10 year old son, father and 11 year old nephew. I have never been a long hauler but am giddy to go. Let the prep for the trip begin. I'll have to see how work works out. Have long & short hauled a number of Tours starting in '05. You should have a blast. 11th apparently will be Biloxi.
Biloxi would be great. We short ran to the 2010 HRPT finale in Mobile Alabama. I still aint sure what I saw....
Mobile was a cluster, unfortunately Biloxi may be 'downtown" also, "downtown" venues usually are a mess.
...maybe I missed it, but does anyone know the route for the first 2 days yet? BTW, the pic on the HOT ROD Power Tour page was taken rite where a bunch of friends and I watched the tour go thru Oregon, Illinois on route 2.
Sam, how did you find out they were goin through that area and what date would that have been if you recall? Also will they be goin anywhere around here on the next tour? My son lives right across the Rock River in Oregon.
The driving Instructions won't be out until 2-3 weeks before it starts, cuts down on oops caused by road/bridge construction closing routes.
George,..thanks, I seem to remember that from last year; I spose they will try to take new routes different from last year. Slopok,...we got the route directions last year shortly before the tour started, we watched em at that location on 6-12-14 Thursday. Since they are heading to southern Illinois I'm figuring they will pass thru our area somewhere. Keep checkin on the Hot Rod website.
Different cities than last year. Some repeats on cities from past Tours, probably different approaches to the cities. Besides Hot Rod's site, witch sucks, check out www.Bangshift.com Forums, one sub forum dedicated to PT.
The directions for each days route are posted here... /images/imagebin/11384/HRPT%202015%20driving%20directions%20EMAILED.pdf
Isn't this really the pro-touring, muscle car tour? How many rods or customs make these runs? Just wondering, not trying to start a controversy. Gary
It is called Hot Rod Power Tour because it is sponsored by Hot Rod Magazine. As far as who can attend, this is from the Hot Rod website... What vehicles are welcome on the Hot Rod Power Tour? Any car or truck owner who wants to join the tour is welcomed! Any year, make or model vehicle accepted. Please, NO rental cars due to insurance requirements. There are plenty of videos on You Tube that show the participant cars. Here is one... http://www.hotrod.com/videos/welcom...erformance-kickoff-party-is-here-23282/23282/ I don't really see a controversy in everyone being welcome. Anybody in anything they want to spend a week driving in is welcome. Newer stuff is more comfortable for the long haul, so there's a lot of it. I can't do the whole thing, but I'm going to try to hit a couple of stops this year.
I've been wanting to do the Power Tour for quite some time now. To me, the controversy is all the late model stuff. I think that there is an accomplishment to run an old car for that many miles. All my hot rods have been drivers and if they break down on the side of the road I'll fix 'em there. To me, taking a new Camaro, Mustang, Corvette, etc is no different than driving a Honda Accord. Not really much of a challenge or anything special. I have nothing against the people that have the late models but I just think they are missing out on the experience. All of us that drive old cars know about the "hot rod delay factor". When ever you stop for gas, food, whatever, you are going to have to spend some time talking to people about your car. You will be told some great stories from folks that had old cars when they were young. You're going to get "thumbs ups" as you drive down the road. People smile, point and take photos. You'll meet people you would have otherwise never talked to. You will be hot and uncomfortable at times. You may be cold and beat up too. You might have to over come some adversity but you will relish the experience when it is over. I've met life long friends when my cars have broken down and they stopped to help. These are things you don't get to experience in late model cars.
I think my bro is going. We live 25 miles from this year's start. Look for red '65 Malibu convert. That's him.
Thanx for the replies. I've only met a few guys who made the trip, some liked it as it was pretty much a "speed" run - rushing from place to place. But others said they wouldn't do it again for the very same reason. Most of the cars seem to be later models, but I'm sure there must be a few rods and even some customs that can keep up the knots and stay on schedule. Gary
It is what it is. I've been long & short hauling since '05. There hot rods, muscle cars, even inapropriate cars. some just blast down the Interstate to the next venue, I enjoy driving the Route, it's the Power Tour not the Power Shows. You can have a great time or not, depending on view.
this will be my 7 long haul . it is not for everyone but can be a very cool experience . my wagon has made 4 of the 6 . in 2010 the trans and rear blew up in north fl so with my wife and my 8 yr old daughter we rented a dodge charger and i still had a blast. i will never forget the laps around Iowa speedway with my wife on the floor practically while my kid is in the backseat yelling go faster daddy. it would have been kooler in the wagon but as a car guy it was a blast. along the tour we checked out many things besides the tour including Cozy dog's on rt 66 ,Lincolons home, library, law office and tomb. then we went to were he grew up . on the way to bowling green we hit the Mammouth caves then some underground boat tour thru another cave. It is what you make of it. Last yr on the day the tour was to begin my 59 got hit and run so there was no way it was gonna make it so what should i do ? go home no way. i love to drive and enjoy the ride.I can still remember telling my wife how impressed i was with the charger and would like to check out the dodge magnum wagon. nothing happened with that idea, well for a few yrs i guess. Fast forward to last year and the accident. I wound up with a dodge challenger and enjoyed the ride, even made me decide to check out a magnum. Now as far as my wife she hates it and relates it to a job . You have to get up and be somewhere by a certain time, not really enough time to enjoy everything and do the whole tour route step by step you can see everything on the tour from mint Yugo's to radio flyer wagon's. At the different stops ,the locals bring out some neat cars. some of the route's can be stressful in an older car for some driver's So this yr my choice will be my 2005 dodge magnum r/t . why? you ask. Well here is the answer , growing up i guess my dad was a dodge man mostly .Looking back the only non dodge's i remember were a mid 60's buick 225 and a later model pontiac wagon. but there was about 5 or 6 dodge's i vaquely remember. On the 2011 power tour i took one of my good friend's and as were drivinfg along he goes " Hey Ace" (that's what my dad called me) what do you think you dad would think of us now cruising down the road in a wagon? So being a dodge wagon this will kinda be a tribute to my dad. On my 1st tour i can remeber running with a group of chevies down the highway including a '65 pro street chevelle, a 68' pro street firebird, a box nova wagon, 67 chevelle, 66 impala .All of a sudden where getting passed by a group of Mopars including a few vipers, road runner chargers ,challenger's for a car guy it was Nirvan as it was freakin awesome as all you could see what Hot rods, muscle cars and everyone having a blast driving them yes the later models don't draw the attention of the older one's
