On my dad's 52 Ford wagon in this photo from 1954 looks like they're black.
You could paint the wheels black on one side of the car and red on the other side of the car.

Absolutely beautiful truck. Can you post some more picks please, maybe in the "trucks only" thread.

I am running '50 Merc aftermarket caps and rings..one of the first things I did was paint the wheels red....now I'm sick of the red..going with a tan/beige for the wheels I think to match the striping and interior.

As for powder coating the wheel, I'd vote against it. I powder coated mine, but I wish I hadn't. The cap doesn't grip as well as if you had just painted them.....and then if your running full wheel hubcaps, whats the point to powder coating the wheel. It caused me to loose a very expensive cap (1956 4-Bar Mercury).

I think most caps leave a small amount of rim showing. Roadster 3.jpg

  10. Ratty: Goin from memory but I think the '56 caps are 15" and the '57's are 14". Maybe why yours don't fit? Tim

  11. Dad knew what he was doing! Back in the day they had to be red. Get with it boy!

I never thought about going with white. It looks good. I have red wheels on my merc. I do have an extra set of wheels I might try a different color?

  21. Thanks.
The caps are from a '55 Chrysler, that I installed 5" bullets on.

These are what I'll be running on my Mainline, the rims were red at some point but faded to a purpleish colour. They'll be painted copper soon.

    I tried white...
But I'm gonna go back to dark - Probably a bit darker blue than the car itself.

my '51, red rims, One Shot - Process Blue checkerboard. ...but in the sixties, red rims were the norm for most all mild street cars regardless of the body color, and I hated the choice on some cars, particularly green cars. I painted my rims black back then.
