Yes, he was Tech Director at Milan. He left Detroit Dragway to work for his friends, Cliff & Barb Riley after they opened Milan. He worked there up until the year he passed away.

Interesting to see the old white 57 Chevrolet again.

The Jere Stahl & Dick Moroso association only lasted for a few years back in the mid 60's and then the rest is history.

biscaynes, thanks for posting , pictures are great as usuall.
Really gets the old juices flowing I just can't get over this time period in drag racing.
I've spent the summer driving the wheels off my 55 and dialing in the front end. Ball joint spacers and 90-10 shocks.
Planning on more fun next summer going to be buying some old style racemasters and stock white wheels to through in the trunk when at the track. Only made two pass down the track at the meltdown. ( mid 14s ) first time in over 40 years to cut a light. Needless to say I was really nervous and chest pounding going thru the traps. But it felt so good I new next summer there would be more track time for the 55. Ron

Nice to see Ronnie Evans' name on that car. His regular job was a painter. They got Benner's name wrong though. It was LaVerne, not LaMar.

Ronnie bought the Valiant from LaVerne and improved it.

LaMar Benner's name is correct. He is LaVerne's brother.

    Thanks,
A little off topic but I'm sure a lot can relate.
Getting the front end to work on these cars with a small HP motor was a real trick.
After installing ball joint spacers and 90-10 shocks and beefing up A-arms repositioning upper ball joints to get 5 degrees positive caster. Also removing the small teeth on the A-arm bushings along with modifying the traction bar to get the snubber up under the front spring eye.
All this stuff is basic to you guys that lived thru it but lost in a lot new builds.
I just love seeing these car lift leaving the start line. Ron

biscaynes: Thanks for posting alot of great oldies. Do you have any of Fred Hartman's Rapid Rodent `55 from its glory days when it was yellow? I used to love to hear that mouse winding up.

Thanks for the correction. Ronnie never mentioned LaVerne had a brother.

  22. Tension - Welcome to the board! Glad the car isn't lost and that you're bringing it back. There's a couple grainy pictures of TENSION thumb tacked to my wall. Hope you'll post up some more, and of the restoration.
