Spent the afternoon making inner door panels s for my 32

Someone decide these were not needed- torched em out
started with a pattern

 

Next I transfer the patterns to sheet metal. Marked and drilled the regulator holes and door remote with 1/8 bit.

Also made a wood pattern of the raised area on the panel. Taped that to the back side

Used a rivet set and chisel to trace and chase the pattern into the metal

Bead roll to make the top relief .

Next week repair install the panels

Made a hole flare die out of some wood and a cut down trailer hitch ball for the seat pieces

I am building a motorized bicycle and wanted to build a gas tank that resembled something on a vintage "Speedway Bike". It might be a little OT, but it is metal shaping and welding on aluminum, and this will be my transportation at Bonneville next year. The material is .063 thickness and 3003 alloy. I regret not getting a pic of the tank roller dies and the bead roller, that is how I turned the edges on the sides and main shell of the tank. The Tig filler rod used was 1100 series, it seems to file and sand quite well.

I am a poor Rookie!! Never shaped anything but...I did make the cowl for my new Front Engine Dragster--bent it over a drive shfat that was stuck in the vise and just kept "coaxing" it until....

Yup Marty, I did the same thing and also added a faux "oil tank" and some chain guards. But yours is nicer and blends well with your frame.

 

I built a Bonneville car for a friend of mine this year. The final touch was an air intake scoop. Here again I used .063 - 3003 aluminum, plenty of pics.

Dave, That Dragster cowl looks great ! I sorta cheat when it comes to forming cowls and panels.

This is a simple cowl steering bubble I did a while back, you will notice that I got too aggressive when burning off the carbon, during the annealing process. My thinking, was that I was trying to learn this stuff, so I tried to save it. I could have made a hammer form to control the shape, but I pounded it on a bag, and shaped it with a cheap planishing hammer. More pics to follow.

 

Part 2, more pounding, grinding, trimming and installation. The hood, along with the scoop, and bulges to clear the blown 4 banger Dodge, were quite a learning experience for me.

Well my children start back to school tomorrow from their Christmas vacation. I figured I'd get the creative juices going early and start them off on the right foot today. Education should start an home anyway..

 

Now that's just awesome !!! teaching your girls how to build things. Shaping metal is a art!

Here is another part out of .063, 3003 aluminum. It's a belt drive cover for my motorbike, however if you lay it flat, it could be an air cleaner for multiple carbs. Simple steps, make a pattern of the outline, and roll a 4" wide band to fit the shape. Run both parts through the tank roller die, followed by a pass with the 1/2" bead, for stiffness.

 

More steps, check for perimeter fitness. Add a couple of dimples, using an old headlight swivel base and the ball on a vice handle. Weld it up and grind to finish. Now I have to build an air cleaner for the tri-power on my 40 Ford pickup.
