So I purchased a 1934 ford 5 window coupe off the internet last week, it looked to be a descent deal and something with some unknown history (which was the deal maker for me). It was located in Newton Ohio so I hooked the trailer up and set out for a 800 mile road trip. When I got out to Ohio the car was as the seller described so I loaded it up and headed back to New Jersey. From the pictures I saw in the listing add I had a hunch that there were some old race numbers under the primer spots on the doors and 1/4 panels. Before I even had it into the garage I wet sanded the passenger side and was able to unveil the DG 289.!!!! I did a quick google search and was able to come up with one picture form Dragway 42 in Ohio. The previous owners name are unknown along with the motor and trans set up. if you have any leads or more pictures please post them here. I will continue to update the thread as progress is made.

    Great score !!

You might want to change the title or start another thread with "Dragway 42" in the title. Lots of people just skim the titles and the people you want to respond, would be more likely to that way.

    Just a suggestion.

I saw this listed , also.. If I did not have so many open projects , It would be in my garage, I'm only 130 miles from its Ohio location.. 289 on the door and the time build period is a good hint that a Ford 289 powered car is what it was,, Good project..

  16. Wow, a great car to find, be a fun build.

  17. 289 was more likely the competition # of the driver & would help lead you to him. Bitchen car, and from the blurry pic, I'm guessing injected SBC.

Go to the DragRaceResults.com site, then click on Bracket Talk Forum, then find Race Track Forums and click on that and then find Dragway 42. There is a fellow who posts on there all the time, Triple Nickel 555, and send him a PM along with the pic. He's been a racer there a long while and I believe his Dad raced there also.

What a great find! I hope you'll carefully document the car and it's history, then gently lift the body off...and discard the rest! A fresh '34 frame and running gear would go a long way towards making this car the outstanding hot rod it could become. Just my $.02.
