  19. .......................I wish I could take credit, but no, I managed to get them in a package deal from a fellow in N.J. with the tires, wheels and trim rings, already painted. I did buy another set of the Merc. caps as sort of a back-up and I plan to attempt the detail painting on them.

Here's a set of Checker Back Flippers I have hanging in my office.....NOT THOSE CHEAP $100 CHINA MADE THINGS......these are the deep dish type..steel, chrome plated....I think they were made by Knight Wheel Co. back in the early 60's to compete with the Olds Saturn Back Stainless Flippers.....I've had these probably 25-30 years.....they were NOS...... they were $7.50 each or $28.00 a set at our local Western Auto....I put them on my 50 Merc for about an hour and took them back off......... 20141121_202633_resized.jpg

I had a set of these on my '55 Buick. They're NAMSCO wheels, circa 1960 (I found an introductory ad for them in the Feb., 1960 issue of "Speed Mechanics" magazine), with a bullet in the center. Still have the caps, but the Buick went down the road, sadly.........
