The "roadster" while being pretty well done, is typical of the times but looks like more than the average Joe type work. Tim
Cool! Did a search and found another car built by Eugene Eick - this time a custom Crosley ... http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/tag/eugene-eick/
Yeah, he still is listed in Middleport and is 85!!! That made him about 29 when his car was featured in the 1960 Ford Times 54 years ago. Why don't you give the old boy a thrill. Pick up the phone and give him a call. Would probably blow his mind. Tell him we dig his creation. Makes me wonder if he was a body and paint guy all his life or just a hobbiest?? Eugene A Eick, 85 (716) 735-9037 4237 Freeman Rd Middleport, NY 14105 - See more at:
It would be interesting to see just how many of these builders are still with us, how many might still own the car and how many might be here on the HAMB. Hopefully they or their friends will see these pictures and join in this discussion. Wouldn't that be a treat!!
................................I'm tempted to call, but I don't know how well the call would be received and at 85 he might not be appreciative of a call from a total stranger.
I just called, he was polite and appreciated the fact that someone still is admiring his work, he said it was a lot of fun a long time ago and he just isnt interested anymore, not even to discuss anything further. I told him thanks and have a wonderful day and just to know his work is still appreciated by many.
I bet that call meant a whole lot more to Mr Eick than he let on! Recognition of the aged is a great thing, it lets them know they are not just a burden on society as some make them feel. Turboroadster, good on'ya mate! Doc.
I remember my grandparents use to subscribe to Ford Times and I always looked through each issue to find the Custom Conversions section. I still find issues every once in awhile in Flea-Markets and Parts Meets. I like to look in them to see if there is a cool old car shown. You can still usually find the old issues for a buck or two.
Ha.....I would love a postcard or twelve from friends indeed. Makes the walk back from the mailbox alot more enjoyable. Especially some bikini babe ones please. What a neat guy. Hope he had a smile today. Thats cool as hell fellas.
I just checked eBay and a package deal of 15 back issues from the late 50's just sold for $5.99. Check there every once in awhile and you can grab a bargan lot. These old Ford Times are a blast to read through.
