Friend posted this on FB: "Dad and I were at pauls auto yard today and found this shell of a 55. Appears to be an ex gasser of some sort. This is all the lettering thats left." Chicagoland or near Indiana I guess...
It could have been a jacked-up gasser, but, with the stock wheelwells, most likely a Modified Production runner.
Looks like it read, "Magnum Racing Engines" possibly. I've seen a Fiat Gasser with that name on it, but not sure if it's still the same company or? Here's some info I found on the Fiat. Maybe someone knows about the '55 Chevy? http://meltdowndrags.com/?page_id=36
I don't know about it's history but the car has been discussed on here before. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=514412&highlight=magnum+55 Looks like that guy may have given up on it.
From post 11 of thread linked by mr48chevy. Looks like its deteriorated further over the last few years.
According to the other thread it's at Pauls Auto Yard, Westville, Indiana. http://www.paulsautoyards.com/ But it does seem to move around a bit. Scotty
What's left of it is at Paul auto yard in Westville Indiana if anyone is interested, been there about six months. from this thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=514412&page=2
im the one that took the picture. the firewall has a cutout for engine setback, chassis is still underneath it, stock style front suspension, no axle, holes cut into the dash for gauges, huge hole in the trans tunnel for 4 speed clearance, no dog house or anything. a sad abandoned restoration that at one time could have been saved. it is too far gone now
id honestly like to know more. this kind of thing intrigues me. id like to see pictures of the car from the glory days of when
Yeah how does an old racer get found, big plans for returning it to it's former glory and then it ends up in a junkyard turning back into dirt ? I read the other thread and while I can relate to giving up on a project because it turned out to be too much I have to wonder why it wasn't sold to someone with more desire. The OP of the original thread still posts here but so far isn't talking.. Was the junkyard owner going to rebuild it and he threw in the towel too or what ? Sucks to see a cool old car rescued only to be abandoned again. Kinda like pulling a drowning victim out of the lake only to beat him to death with a hammer.
