You (I?) would think that this grille would be excited to be part of this build. You (I?) would think it would jump into the grille opening. It doesn't feel that way at all. It's probably because of all the paint that's now there, or possibly its a flaming narcissist and doesn't want to share the spotlight with the paint.

What ever it is, I am now having to deal with it.

So many ways to hit that one back and not a one of 'em family-friendly. lol. So I'll just say it wouldn't be any fun if they put themselves together and leave it alone. Haha.

Great to see it getting so close now...gonna be stunning and all the effort you've put in will be well worth it.

I guess the grill decided it wanted to be a team player after all.
You are gaining on it Jer. Can't wait to see the bumpers on it as well.

Hey guys, I'm at the place where I need to nail down the color that was on the original Kustoms of L.A. Barris plates. Jesse say's it was an ugly purple. I was thinking that someone has an original plate that I could see a color picture of. There has to be original color pics of those plates on Barris cars in mags somewhere. I thought I would ask.

Jer, there are two color photos in the Jack Stewart Ford book showing the Kustoms of Los Angeles plaques. One on Jacks Ford when Jim Skonzakes owned it in 1951. Looks to be black in that picture. And one on Jim's Buick in 1952, that one looks to be dark purple.

  9. Kurt McCormick has an original Barris plaque that appears to never have been painted. That might be an indication that they may not have necessarily all been painted a standard color? So maybe some were black and some might have been dark purple? A color picture, so much as it is, of the Hirohata Merc in (I think) a '53 Rod and Custom mag looks like the plaque is black…but then again so does the dark green.

005.JPG Thanks guys, I grabbed my copy of Rik's fine book and this is the pic that he is referencing. I sure wish that it had better color (or closer). I also talked to Kurt earlier thinking he had the inside track on this. He didn't. In the back of my mind is an image of one of these, and it's a semi dark muddy purple. I don't know where I saw that. I do appreciate this effort. I'm hoping that there are some better pics out there.

As I was going through Riks book (again) I came to this page (55) in the "shops involved" section. I think the plaque on the extreme left is the best look at an original that shows the incredibely faded purple color. It looks li 003 (2).JPG ke I need a dark red with a little blue and maybe black. This helps a lot.

The Kustom's Plaque on the left in the photo from the Jack Stewart book cannot be used for reference. Its a later replica.

Here is another one from 1951... on Marcia Campbell's Model A Roadster Pick Up. Looks to be black here.

I've got to go back to the trim shop for a tune up on some issue's with the interior. One of them deals with the small trim panel on the L. A pillar. This will include r&i on the interior window frame. The Appleton spotlight goes through that item. It will be one of the last things done.
