Which one is it? I didn't see a title that started with George Barris and included Munsters, Dragula, or anything like that.
    Thanks.

    Saxman...

    You're welcome, my friend !

George's memory is always spot-on...he never fails to impress me in every Interview we do. But, he was exceptionally glad that we covered this story...because many don't know, or remember, that he was the driver of "Drag-U-La" in this Epsode...which he really loved doing !! http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage.html

    Thanks, Mikey ! You're right...cool and also fun !!

A friend of mine here in the St.L. Area checked this out too, and said that he remembers seeing the "Hot Rod Herman" Episode when he was a kid but, like most everyone else at the time, he never knew George actually drove the "Drag-U-La". Loved hearing George tell the story ! http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage.html

Remember the Munsters from back home in Austria when I was a kid, was always waiting for the cars to show up during the episode.
Hot Rods haven't been known in the mid 70's there. Our police cars where Volkswagen Beetle back then;)

TO ALL MY FRIENDS HERE AT THE H.A.M.B...

It's that time of the year again...what would HALLOWEEN be without a visit from "The Munsters" in "Hot Rod Herman"...with GEORGE BARRIS (who's shop built the "Munster Koach" & "Drag-U-La") at the Dragstrip ?

George's story about driving "Drag-U-La" at the Riverside Speedway...AND, doing a wheelie in the process...is short, perfect, and, a lot of fun to hear !

If you're new to the H.A.M.B. you'll be in for some great info; if you heard it before...you know you wanna hear it again ! PLUS, Grandpa Munster even gives us an Introduction !
    Here's the Link: http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage.html

    HAPPY HALLOWEEN...ENJOY.

Loved that show when I was a kid! Nobody could ever replace Fred Gwynne, Al Lewis or Yvonne DeCarlo in those roles...they each had a certain chemistry with the characters they played and with each other.

    cfmvw,

You are right there for sure ! Al Lewis & Yvonne DeCarlo, after years of being in the Industry, always appreciated the new-found stardom that they had sought, by having whole new generation of fans.

Sad thing is, Fred Gwynne also had a very long career, but in his later days tried to getaway from "Herman", and that iconic Series that he helped make legendary...didn't want to talk about it.

BUT, those cool kars that George created, never failed to impress: then OR now !

I mentioned previously that I had met Al Lewis when I was Program Director at KADI FM/AM here in St. Louis. He was in town for some promotion events, and came by the station to visit my Boss (the owner), and, myself. A really nice guy, "wild man" sense-of-humour, fun to be around.

So, this past weekend, a friend of mine who has "The Munsters" DVD Set, invited me over to watch a really clean copy of "HOT ROD HERMAN"...and it was so cool to see it on a 42" Flat Screen ! He knew, from my Interview story, that George had driven the "Drag-U-La" for the race, and we both just cracked-up when Barris hit that wheelie !

ALSO, I reminded him about my meeting AL LEWIS, and, (he had forgotten this) Al was in that 1980 comedy classic "Used Cars" ! Al played the "hanging judge": Judge H.H. Harrison...nobody could have done (pardon the expression) justice to that role but him !

In any event, that's why I added Grandpa Munster to the Introduction of this classic story by George on his working in "Hot Rod Herman"...Al Lewis was truly a "one of a kind". Enjoy !

TO ALL MY FRIENDS HERE ON THE H.A.M.B...
I have updated this very special story to share with all of you. George & I did the Original Interview in at the KKOA Lead Sled in Salina in 2006.

And, when I found out that BUTCH "Eddie Munster" PATRICK was coming to the 2016 Salina event, I thought it would be a wonderful way to honor George by getting Butch's first-hand info on the 10th Anniversary of this Special Interview...and blend them BOTH together for the COMPLETE "Hot Rod Herman" oral history from George AND Butch.

SO, if you're new to the H.A.M.B., or, have never heard this story & Interview before,
read on and you'll have great fun...and learn a great part of R&C History:

GEORGE BARRIS & BUTCH (EDDIE MUNSTER) PATRICK, TALK ABOUT "THE MUNSTERS" ON TV...WITH THE FAMOUS "HOT ROD HERMAN" AT THE DRAGSTRIP EPISODE !

FROM1964-1966 one of the hottest shows on TV was "THE MUNSTERS" ! George and his Crew built the special cars for that show...and I wanted to know how it came together for this Episode.

GEORGE GIVES THE REAL STORY on the "Munster Koach" and the "Drag-U-La" Car...which he actually drove at the Dragstrip in this Classic Episode ! (PS: Grandpa Munster makes a cameo appearance especially for our listeners; and, listen for George doing a "wheelie" !!)

PLUS, Butch "Eddie Munster" Patrick, was there when it all went down...and he gives me his "Munster Memories" of that Episode, and talks about his career, and, his long-time friendship with George Barris : "The King Of The Kustomizers" !

IT ALL STARTS RIGHT HERE with "GRANDPA MUNSTER"...AND, the GEORGE BARRIS & BUTCH PATRICK INTERVIEWS for "HOT ROD HERMAN" at the Dragstrip ! You'll hear this piece of R&C History when you Click-On-This Link

Many thanks ! Some cool emails on this !! Yes, Butch Patrick's addition to the "HOT ROD HERMAN"...at the Dragstrip Interview was fun to do ! Butch's stories about George & the other Munster cast members...are priceless. Especially the ones about Fred Gwynne & Al Lewis ! http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage.html

Tim...thanks for the call the other night ! Glad you got to meet Butch at the KKOA in Salina this year ! His autograph table always had a line of people waiting to meet him, and get pix with him!
We did this Interview before we all left for home on Sunday...and he was just cool to work with ! His stories about Al Lewis in "Used Cars" & Fred Gwynne in "Pet Sematary" are so true ! http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage.html

BTW: If any of you Hambers met Butch in Salina...or, have any other stories about Butch, George, the Munsters, or "Hot Rod Herman"...please share 'em with us ! Would love to hear 'em !!

    Thanks !

It was on yesterday, funniest line was when Herman asked what kind of car it was. The answer was it's a rail. And Herman said someone in my family was ridden out of town on one of those...[IMG]

Mark...thanks for the pix ! Missed you in Salina this year...you gotta come back next year, amigo !

I watched "Hot Rod Herman" again last night...that line IS hilarious ! PLUS, knowing that it's George in that costume, doing the driving...and hearing him tell how he decided to do a wheelie in the Drag-U-La, is just plain cool. And, Butch Patrick's new addition to the story, and his take on what happened 52 years ago is perfect !

  29. One of the best episodes ever of the munsters. Hey Jonnie, do you remember the episode when herman took his driving test for a license with the family hot rod? That one was really funny.

Yes ! That was hilarious ! That was in the 2nd Season with the veteran actor Charlie Ruggles. That's one of the parts that Butch talks about in the Interview. http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage.html The fun part is when Ruggles gives Herman the eye test ! Thanks for reminding me !
