Projects 46 Ford coupe UPDATE: NOW A TRADITIONAL CUSTOM

& that is why it looks so good, you haven't tried to copy someone else's method.

 

Bored so i guess I'll post a pic... i work weekends so no new progress.

 

Well i moved the car to ky parents for winter work. I worked yesterday for almost 4 hrs on a 2' by 3" section.... slowly but surely. Im pretty proud of how its turning out.

 

Cool! ...I work at the Ford Plant also, Day shift truck side. My '46 is also a budget build/daily driver, hopefully. I'm down in Lee's Summit, you must be in Liberty with a 7 mile round trip?

 

Looks great! that will be a cool family ride.

 

Proportions on the chop turned out really nice. Can't wait to see the continued progress.

 

A very cool ride for a family!.....I had to make a few 'changes' when my kids were young, and then...as they got older, they had 'learned' the old car thing first hand by riding around in the 'family' low-budget hotrod...now, they love it. That car I had 'put on hold' all those years ago (31 Ford)...now my son is helping me build the 'one' I wanted years ago...a full circle.....family should always come first, and it makes the hobby that much more sweeter with that family support....good luck with your project

 

Enjoying this thread. I had a 41 coupe back in the late 60's with a 53 Merc that was "souped up" Alum heads, cam, 3-dueces. When I was a kid my dad had a 46 sedan,.

 

Update?

 

Nothing to update except that my Model A was taken apart again and is now up and running again. So... real updates on the 46 very soon.

 

Well I got her pushed around in a bay I can work in and the motor and trans sat back in. Next week I'll start finishing the chop then floors then chassis!

I had the guys over on the photo shop thread give me a few ideas.... man am I ever motivated and excited now!!!

 

So after consulting with Rikster and J.B. I have decided to go with a 39 style toploader trans in the 46. It may not be everyone's first choice but it will save me money and time. And the way I see it if a young man in say 49 had a 46 ford with a blown trans he was customizing and had a perfect floorshift trans laying in the corner he would have used it in a heart beat. So with that said I can see a chrome floor shift sticking up in my future!

 

Well I'm burnt out on the chop. So I started rust repair. Trunk floors are pretty rough but the rest aren't bad.

Well I got the rust in the sides repaired and a new crossmember built and in. Started on the floors. I don't have a bead roller so I hand hammer some beads in to make its stiffer. Not pretty but I like it. It won't ever be seen anyway. Progress.

 

We moved to a new house and I now have my own shop! Got the 46 moved up this week. Expect updates on a semi regular basis.

Started working on finishing the chop. Making new panels to replace some ugly. I still have some fitting and shaping to go but I'm happy so far.

Got the panel fit and tacked in. Still needs a little bumping but should work out well. I'm learning .

Moving to the door top. Removing the drip rail left a horrible gap around the door. Added a 1/4" of material all the way around to close it up. And started to round the corner.
