What I meant was, I can't use an english wheel and other big machinery like that. The whole point of this build is to do it using a mig welder and a grinder!

I think the cowl area is where most of the VW body conversions miss. Yours is going to make a realistic older car cowl appearance. Be interested to see the rest of your modifications.

How do you plan to address the quarter panels? I assume you using some type of frame and front engine/rear drive?

I think the rear quarter panels are another area where similar projects go wrong. I have plans to address this, so bear with me.
I intend for this body to be channelled over a frame with a front engine and rear drive. In fact the drive train and frame can be quite traditional, this project is more about the body.

 

I know you are a big voice on this forum so it's good to have you on board!

I have this pair for £40 (which is about $65), plus shipping.
I can remove the lettering if you want, as they are stickers.

 

The A pillars needed to be 'tucked in' at the bottom to replicate the shape of the early Fords. This was achieved by slicing up where the A pillar meets the dash, and bringing the bottoms of the 'legs' in. At this stage everything is pretty flimsy and needs plenty of bracing and measuring to bring each side in the same distance.

 

Now with the sides in place, the cowl is starting to take shape.
The heater channels (or what's left of them!) act act as 'skis' to support the work

 

I'm amazed at what folks will try.
Congrats on a good start to a very interesting project.

Long way around the barn but I admire your ambition. Lots of hotrods started with just cowls.

 

I'm well aware of Shakespeare, unfortunately his first post read, 'There is something rotten in the state'....
Perhaps he meant 'the States'?
