Projects "Pea Green" the '29 Tudor build

I'd been looking for a decent non-chopped or channeled "A" Tudor body and frame, or a stalled and unfinished project or even a large pile of parts at a good deal when I came across this.....(with this bonus shade of green)

I know some will consider it a bad idea, to take apart this mostly complete restored car, but I gotta do it. So consider yourself warned and keep an eye in the classifieds for some good condition parts:

Basic plan is a no-fendered stock wheelbase hi-boy using alot of hand made or modified parts.

 

I have no problem with hot rodding restored Model A's. I just have a problem tossing a real nice set of the most beautiful fenders Ford ever created. I understand building a highboy style car if the builder does not have fenders, with the car. It's a challenge to restore, and fit a full set of fenders, and it can be expensive, but damn, 28/29 Model A fenders already finished and fit to the car to be discarded just isn't right. I know, I know, it's the builder's car, and his choice, blah, blah, blah. But, put some kind of 15" wheels and tires on the car, get it seriously down in the weeds, and watch that car's style come out.

when you are working on this HOT ROD and you get up from underneath and hit your head that will be Henry Ford smacking you with a wooden mallet from the grave...

 

I didn't know "fitting a set of 28/29 fenders" was as car specific as you say, I was considering saving every part I take off and storing, but I've already got a problem with keeping too much stuff.

So I'm currently working on the front axle/brakes etc....
fitting some 46 hubs and spindles to Pontiac drums....


and adapting to 36 to 39 wheels..... 3.5" front and 4" rear (considering widening to 5 or 6")

with some slightly modified Dick Spadaro adaptor plates

 

What a great start on a build! Seeing a dial indicator and a nice wheel adaptor tells me you know what your doing. Can I ask to be first in line for the fenders? They would look fine on my project, good luck with yours. Bob

 

Sell the fenders and other parts you don't need.. I like your plan and a nice solid original is the best material to start with for a hot rod build.. I'm going to follow this one.. And yea, I even like the color...

 

For what it's worth, the fenders, running boards, and probably all the other parts will end up in the automotive food chain to be used on other cars, the monetary proceeds to go toward building his hot rod. It's not like he's gonna take a hammer to the stuff and destroy it so no one else can use it...they just do that on those idiot TV automotive shows.

 

I couldn't have said better. when I bought, I considered the selling of parts to assist financing the build I imagine.

I thought for days, "how can I drill some kooling holes in a pattern I've not seen" my 16 year daughter came home from school wearing a dress with a "Paisley pattern" and I was inspired. plan to make some aluminum "scoops" for the upper forward area.....

 

Send me the fenders and aprons. I'll store 'em for you! If they were '28 AR's I'd come and get them personally!!

 

did a little hammering, cutting and filing on some 1/4" aluminum; still rough, plan to clean up and polish later

 

Fenders or no fenders from the looks of your work you don't need anyone telling you how to build a car

Wow-how ! Fabrication man in the house. Man, those are some ornate drills. You also a pinstriper, or an engraver? Sweet flourishes there. This is going to be good....isn't it? Alright.......let's go !

No, but I do some interior work and am really into the paisley type patterns. (i have considered buying a "pinstriper starter kit" and messing around with it)
Here's the interior of my 52 Ford;

 

creative....can be polarising at times, but worth the support. Look forward to seeing where this leads.

The backing plates are not for me. But your workmanship is outstanding. If I knew how to subscribe your threads I 'd sure do it.

 

Cool. I can't remember the AMBR winner that actually won.....nor what year......but it had gunsmith engraving on the backing plates....chromed out. Reminds me of that car. Maybe a T or A roadster?? Oh well....yep, stripe kit could be fun to play with. Patience is the word.

 

I know some of my stuff is "polarizing". I've always been able to admire others work/craftsmanship and got inspiration and knowledge from low-riders to rock-crawlers.
I plan to widen the rear wheels from 4" to about 5 1/2 or 6" adding to the backspacing only. Going to use part of this donor wheels. Plan to cut about at green marks......


Backing plate update, mostly complete (might add a little dark brown pin-striping) or something.
