Having owned a 56 Chevy P/U at the time. A buddy of mine told me there was a 56 Chev P/U being built at Barris. On I think 3 occasions I watch Sam Barris do the body work. Who created the design, painted it and all other finish work I don't know. The first time I seen Sam Barris working on it he had just finished chopping it. Joking I asked Sam if he would like to trade his 56 Chev p/u for mine. He turned his head and said "Ya right kid". So I guess I can say I was there.

Everything I find on it says it is a 1958 Ford Fairlane Town Sedan. And it is the shot from the movie.

I went to LBJ's ranch in 2010. The Corvette in the carport was one LBJ gave to his daughter. Wonder if this is the same car?

The story I've always run across states that Barris bought the truck from someone else already chopped. I suppose several books that mention this could be wrong. Can anyone shed some light on the story.

  11. Erosion control. I see it as money in the bank.

If I remember correctly, the Barris Brothers bought the truck initially to be a shop truck, and then things got out of hand...you may be thinking of Spencer Murray's R&C Dream Truck. Barris did the front end on it (Studebaker grill pans, quad headlights), but it came to the Barris shop after Sam Gates of Pasadena chopped the top. Later it went to Indiana's Bob Metz for the rear fender treatment.

So I think that the Barris's did chop this one...but the authority is Rik Hoving.
