Browsing through CL as always, and stumbled upon this.
    http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/cto/4658540798.html
Something tells me this guy is waaay off on the price.
Also, how did he come up with the numbers of how many are left etc?
Seems like this guy is looking for a sucker!!

    Text from the Ad:
I think it is worth $8,000 as it sits and who knows once restored since it is so unique.

Chance to get a one of a kind vehicle to restore. This is a 2 Door, Straight 8, 1950 Buick Roadmaster.
ONLY 1800 ever made and I can only find 3 on the road in the USA at this time. Search for it. Make sure you look for a 2 door and 4 portals. YOU WONT FIND THEM.

Motor ran when parked(A long time ago) Transmission was out. There is a replacement transmission in the trunk. Needs full restoration. I have almost all the chrome and all bumper parts there. Only thing missing is one corner window and the tow yard at 380 and 35 has one for $50. Body in great shape. Mostly surface rust. Restoration work started and hood is completely done now. Car is currently in Princeton about to get a front clip from 1999 Cadillac and Rear axle and four link from Caddy. This is included if you want it done, if not hurry. I have a title to go with car.

  2. NADA says low retail is 85 hundred for a 50 Roadmaster Riviera Hardtop. He's in the ball park, but I'd counter with a much lower offer. As far as there being 3 left.....hogwash. Buick built 2300 Roadmaster Rivieras in 1950. Given the usual 10% survival, there should be at least 200 of them left

Hey, no telling what the craigslist bunch are smokin', but there sure seems to be a lot of it going around!

I use search tempest to do my craigslist searches:
    http://www.searchtempest.com/
Got one set up to catch any year model from 1920 to 1967. Can set it for any distance you choose from home.
It's truly AMAZING the prices some of these folks come up with, for the nastiest, rustiest pieces of crap you could imagine!
On the rare occasions I find something remotely interesting, I ignore the price and shift into "trade" mode.
    Like the old joke:
"How do you like my $10,000 dog?"
"Damn! ... you gave $10,000 for that dog?"
    "Naw, I traded him two $5,000 cats!":p

could be a nice car, but in that condition, i would say $4K is still on the high side.

No, It's not worth 8K. The side trim alone will cost you $1000.

It's worth so much, it's sooo rare, and he's putting a Caddy front clip on it? Think he watches too many bullshit car shows on TV. Maybe he's a Gas Monkey kind of guy. They are cool cars, but I wouldn't pay that for that one.

There's $8000 worth of double talk in that ad. It's all there except for what ain't and you can get the other part down the road for $50. Could never figure why they don't go down the road and buy the parts needed then sell the cars. Not gonna be a deal that's for sure.
Would be a nice car when finished.

Yeah, with the Gas monkeys being so close, they all think they can get them to come and pay ridiculous prices for cars. Why? because on that show they buy and sell cars both for prices that we know are ridiculous. Just because they are on "TV" 1971 Chevy wagon for 50K give me a break

Offer what you think it's worth. Give him your number. Sit back and wait. Chances are your phone will ring.

    " if not hurry."
Typical red neck high pressure sales statement. "Buy this before I Phuck it it up" or "Give thousands or it goes to the scrapper." Screw that guy and his junk.

Had a fellow tell me about his, get this, 4 door 37 Oldsmobile Convertible. He claimed less than 10 are known to exist. He went across country to get it. I asked if had a straight 8 or 6... Nope 350/350 clipped frame with AC stereo leather typical SR crap... Some folks are stupid. Why be stupid with them and buy their crap?

sure why not.... $8,000.00 as is and $3,000.00 with the Cadillac clip installed.

  20. Tell ya what, you sell it to the scrapper for a few hundred and I'll keep my $8000 and buy something worth $8000.......LOL

  21. He's full of shit. By that logic my '40 Roadmaster coupe should be worth $10,000 and I can't even get someone to offer a tenth of that for it.

I screenshot ridiculous ads from CL and paste them in a Powerpoint at work (only at lunch though). I keep waiting to see the prices reduce, so far I have not seen any go down, but I have only been doing this for 6 months or so. Some of these idiots are real dreamers.

This one doesn't make the cut.

As Carl La Fong already mentioned, there were 2,300 Roadmaster Riviera Hdtp coupes made in 1950. And there were also 8,432 Roadmaster Deluxe Riviera Hdtp coupes made in 1950. I don't know if the one pictured is the Deluxe or not, but as far as 1950 Buick Roadmaster 2 dr hdtps, 10,732 were made. All Roadmasters had the four port holes.

Old Cars Report Price Guide values for a 1950 Roadmaster 2 dr hdtp are
    1. $36,000
    2. $25,200
    3. $16,200
    4. $ 7,200
    5. $ 4,320
    6. $ 1,440

I would imagine there are very few 1950 Roadmaster 2 dr hdtps left, but I would also guess more than three.

There is something almost magical about the late 40s to late 50s Buicks. They look good, period.

Well, if all the trim was there and in good shape I'd probably offer him 1/2 of that. Providing the grass hadn't grown up thru where the floor used to be. There's a reason they only made 1800. Nobody wanted them.

  30. As has been posted, Buick made quite a few more than the 1800 figure given by the seller. To say that they didn't sell well because no one wanted them is absurd. Buick sold every one that they built. It was a top of the line model and was only available to those who could afford them. This wasn't a base model Chevy, this was a car that bankers and business owners drove. Everybody wanted one
